I think whats happening is that as soon as you go into battery mode, Vista is downclocking your video card to save battery usage. This then effects the performance when using the editing software since it relies on the card.

So go to Start/Control Panel/Mobile PC/Change Battery Settings......then change to High Performance mode. See if that works.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have gone into advanced systems settings now and even if you turn the power saving off and make the graphics card run 100% On battery uping the minimum from 5% to 100% it makes no diffrence

My system will not run on battery editing is a nightmare, what the system was bought for.

there is evidence of the flicker/ screen fit when you use aero deck or change between windows on the system.

have tried all the drivers

deleting them running c cleanear nothing is helping

any ideas

come on guys please help

anybody else having issues??

Well on battery mode I don't get any flicker with the aero dock etc. I know u said u have tried all the drivers but have u tried drivers from laptopvideo2go? Maybe give the 169.04 drivers a try which are recent and I am currently using. Remember to download their modded .inf file as well and replace the original.

There are some tweaks in their modded .inf so who knows it may help.

A way of removing existing drivers is just right-click 'my computer'/properties/device manager...go to display adapter/right-click/uninstall and check the 'delete the driver software...' box.

I am using Vista 32-bit Home so maybe it is something to do with Ultimate.

Check this page and post #7 and see if that works.

i have the same issue with vista ultimate also. i was trying to view a quicktime video and got the flicker. its happened with a view other programs also. Ive tried newer and older video drivers, all with no improvements. The only thing that seemed to change it was a re installation of vista, but then different programs are affected. i'm still looking for a fix too.

its like the screen keeps resetting to different resolutions quickly, but in a way that the background stays the same but there is no chance of using the program. its hard to explain but i do believe that i'm having the same issue. Its only a vista problem, as my xp pro dual boot install has no such problem, and hasn't for almost a year now. I believe it may have something to do with aero...?

I must admit i have had my 1730 for a week now and on battery it has been a nightmre.....Most programmes just state not responding?? Viewing photos in media player just are sooooooo slow ? and i have blueray which just flickers continually when tryinh to watch on the move???? Is this normal with blueray as i bought the system to watch movies on the go??

I wouldnt mind but i waited 6 weeks or this to be built!!!!

i think its an issue with vista and aero not being able to be run correctly on our nvidia cards. My belief is a driver issue, as i think nvidia has been having some problems getting a driver to work correctly with laptops. I'll keep researching and see what i can find. any luck with tech support?

To be honest i have lost faith with this dell xps system and all the problems i have had with it in my first few days and have just rung up and cancelled in my cooling off period.....

I am now going to get an Alienware system but now have the sticky scenario of xp pro or vista and 7950gt or 8700sli?????

I really think manufacturers should state what can and cant be achieved on a laptop from the outset as anyone who frequents hotels and long journeys will obviously quite alot of the time use battery not mains so they are pointless if you cant work on the go!!
