New Laptop Time...what shall it be???

Thread Starter
After 2.5 years, time has come to replace my HP ZD8115

now this laptop had some good things and bad, I would like to keep the good things on a new laptop, and improve upon the bad.

GOOD

Full Size Keyboard (numbpad)
Lots of Ports (5 usb ports onl 3 sides firewire, card lots, and the like)
Good front mounted speakers
Touchpad/wirless on/off buttons
5in1 Card reader
Remote
Widescreen Display
discrete video card

BAD

Noise
Heat
Batterylife
HP dependent drivers/updates (hate this, I want my drivers from ati/nvidia)
no front mounted non os media player

Now of course I would like to upgrade the main parts as well

dual or quad core processor
2+gig ram
most up to date feature rich future proof chipset
160+ gig HD
hdmi/displayport video out
512 meg+ dx10.1 video card
hd dvd/blueray drive
perhaps an internal tv tuner

2-3 year warranty

not much more than 3 grand

Am I asking for 2 much?

you might also want to take a look at Xtreme Notebooks - http://www.xtremenotebooks.com/index..._type=notebook

Their sales and service are pretty good.

You want this

www.voodoo.com

Or this http://www.falcon-nw.com/ !!!!!

To be honest at 3000.00Dollars you're looking at a nice range of laptops. When you say discrete GPU which line are you looking for? Not to many but only a handful carry the 7950GTX/7900GTX cards now as GPUs and many are already caring mid range 8600/8700M cards. If you wanna game you'll really want the 7950GTX card and most of thos laptops are 17inchers. Same goes for a full sized keyboard that you're asking for and pretty much to my knowledge the 17inch lines come with that.

But with that said you'll face heat problems and low time on your battery.

gaming video card and good battery life are just about mutually exclusive. toss in a big screen (15.4 or bigger) and a high-revving cpu and well....the battery doesn't stand a chance.

No one knows for sure about the 8800cards so you can play the wait game or just buy something now. like abf said you're not going to see a gaming laptop get above 2hours of battery life you actually want to game on it. Also you're going to get almost all your cons with a gaming rig besides the HP part if you dont buy a HP.
