Windows on Mac but MAC OS-X on Intel?.?.?

I've seen articles where people who have removed MAC OS-X from their MAC book and installed Windows XP only. I have not seen anyone trying to use their already exsisting or new PC / laptop to go to MAC OS-X. Has anyone heard of this?

I am wanting to get another new laptop, however I am not willing to spend 3 grand just to try out a MAC. I am willing to format a current system and install a purchased copy of MAC OS-X to give it a try, prior to spending the big bucks. I have never owned a MAC nor used a MAC, and that seems like alot of money to spend just to find out if I would like it or not.

I have heard of "Hackintosh" which is getting OS X to run on a Windows box. The big hurdle you will face with what you want to do is drivers. Apple only writes drivers for their computers. That's why you only need one install disk (DVD) for leopard to get your computer up and running. The disk comes with all the drivers needed for the range of computers Apple produces.

Now you may be able to get OS X to install on a Windows box/laptop but you need to find drivers for the hardware. Search for hackintosh in google and see what comes up.

Also what laptop are you looking at for $3,000? You can get a regular MacBook for around a thousand and a MacBook Pro 15" for about $2,000. Student discounts, refurbs, sales and Amazon.com can bring the price down even more.

Yea seriously, I mean, 3 grand gets you a wicked machine in any world, including Apple.

FearlessFozz is right though, Google is your friend

As has been asked before, now that you can run windows natively on a Mac, why wouldn't you get one if you had $3k to spend? (Short of getting an uber gaming rig along the likes of dellienware, along with your own personal chiropractor). If you and windows and some viagra need to get your groove on you're covered with one of the sharpest (the sharpest IMO) laptops around.

Keep in mind this is still in the initial stages so there are compatabiity/driver issues

2700 or 3K is the starting price for a MACBOOK Pro with a 17" monitor. If I do another notebook Im going all out. Truth be told my other options are to wait and see what Allienware is promissing to release by months end or get their M9750. So why would'nt I get a MAC; question is why would I? @ 3K that is already a grand more than AW charges for a simular system. Not having a MAC prior I dont see what I'm getting for a grand moe other than ILife. For a grand I can buy a lot of software to do the same things in WindoZZZZZ.

Would'nt drivers be availible from the hardware companys themselves? I know it would be a pain to search them all out but I would think NVidia and others would have MAC drivers availble for those who wish to upgrade their MACs. -No?-

the alienware is more like ~$60 cheaper than the MBP similarly configured. On the up side, you get a better GPU w/ the alienware, but w/ a lower res LCD on the base model and a slower CPU (even when upgraded). Then again if you upgrade the LCD you can brag about resolution but you then go beyond the price of the MBP.

In any case, if you really care about maxing out a gaming system you don't buy a laptop to begin with. You could easily configure a low end Mac Pro for ~$2200 and save the rest of the cash for a GPU and monitor upgrade, much less a home-built windows system. Just some options...

What kind of system do you have now?

Yes you can install the individual drivers (nVidia, Broadcom, Marvell, etc.). Apple just puts them all in one place to make things easy for a windows install.

17" MBP stock model pricing:
retail is $2799 +tax
academic is $2599 +tax
refurb is $2399+ tax

"the alienware is more like ~$60 cheaper than the MBP similarly configured" For me its no so much about which is cheaper. Im going to do a 3K laptop once and only once. For that monay I want the right system for me.
At this point in time another desktop is out of the question, I need mobility. Current systems includes a Toshiba 486 w/ 95. An IBM think pad w/ a pentium 90mhz and XP. Current work laptop is a DeLL Latitude D620. Wife is running a 5 yr old Inspiron, and a new 2.0 ghz Inspiron.
Thanks for options but my next desktop will be a FULL entertainment system. Already have a few "old" high ends and $500 jobbies. Not looking to upgarde any of those right now....
