Core Duo/Core 2 Duo system owners- post your cpu temps

Thread Starter
Hey all. I'm doing a bit of research to see what the average temperature these chips run at is, mainly because there are a whole bunch of Mac users that claim that the MacBook/MacBookPro don't run any hotter than PC notebooks with the same chips, despite the fact that all of them are perfectly capable of seeing CPU temperatures under 100% load of well in excess of 80*C, sometimes in excess of 90*C (mine hits 91 running itunes with the visualizer fullscreened), and I don't think that most PCs with these chips run that hot.

I understand that these chips are rated up to 100*C, that's not what I want to find out. I want to know how hot YOUR CD/C2D-based notebook runs.

So yeah... if anyone would care to post their make/model notebook and specs, and the CPU temps they hit (ideally using the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool to measure the temperatures as well as load the CPU; though any other applications you choose to use are fine... i'd just like to keep the results as standardized as possible, and the TAT is a good tool), I'd appreciate it. The TAT can be downloaded here:

Thanks a lot guys.

Running @ 2.83GHz I pulled 32-35c Idle, 83c inder TAT load.

Ive been seing an interesting fad in gaming notebooks that can account for higher temps, it would seem that the same heatpipe wraps across the CPU and Video card. I first noticed this in a Gateway laptop with a 17" screen. When in doubt, snoop ebay for parts, this will give ya an idea how they are built inside.

well for the 1710 you can look at the pics at the bottom of my review (in my sig).

Other notebooks, including the 1730 you can use the top link to gain access to service manuals that also contain pics.

Sol man, you need to AS5 and undervolt your CPU!

I have basically the same system, except I have applied AS5 and undervolted my CPU, and even at 3.16GHz, the hottest it has EVER gotten is 81 degrees. But when I prop up the laptop and run my laptop cooling fans, it doesn't get higher than 78 degrees.

That's under load, just sitting here, NHC helps keep things nice and cool, where my CPU sits between 27-30 degrees at idle.

My GPU is also AS5'ed and overclocked. That also only gets up to the upper 70's max and 34-37 degrees idle. Doing this has also kept my memory and hard drive cooler, both of which run at 30 degrees idle and never go above 40 when stressed.

I highly recommend it. If you want to know my voltages, I can post them.
