X Box 360 or PS3 ? - Page 2

why the lame name calling? it always has to end this way in a ps3/360 thread. I think all threads like this need to be deleted. oh and I've had every major console there is....cept for the wii. I'm pretty well done with consoles and back to pc's

I just think we should know what types of games she likes before suggesting a console

p.s. my 360 blew up two weeks ago

Red ring of death?

Oh and the reason ABF is bashing the PS3 is because he just bought a 360. Oh and he is always right the PS3 sucks unless you play Final Fantasy?

i am just saying that OP said she liked RPG... and from the list of PS3 exclusives FF stood out as "the RPG" that would define the console.

yes i recently got a 360... but i could have gotten a ps3 or wii just as easily. why did i get 360? although sony did have some good exclusives coming for ps3 (i am a big gran turismo fan), the 360 games list is rather competitive (forza 2 is not as good...yes). Most of the games i am interested in for the future (GTA4) are not console-exclusive (and have a simultaneous cross-platform release) so it didn't matter if i picked one over the other (remember how San Andreas came out 6 month earlier for PS2 than xbox and pc). Furthermore many of my friends have 360s so playing them via xbox live sounded like a benefit. Of course the PS3 had some pluses to it too. For starters it runs linux (i am a linux junky), has built in wifi ($100 for xbox which effectively narrows the price gap... or run super long cable 1/2 way through the house), built in bluray (though pointless to me since i don't have hdtv (yet) and my local blockbuster does not have bluray disks for rent)... At the end of the day it wasn't about how good the machine is, but about how much gaming fun i can get out of it. As for the quality issue... the 65nm versions are making their way to market. They have fixed many of the heat and quality issues of the older models. If anything, there is a 3 year warranty for the RRoD.

my 360 didn't have the rrod, the video went out on it. it plays just fine. I can put in a game/movie and it plays everything works, but the video. sound is fine, I tried a friends av cable and his tv still nothing... weird eh. I think it miight be because of the mod I did to it?

anyways, both the 360/ps3 have their pros and cons. take your wife to look at both and have her pick simpe as that.

in your opinion, what are the PS3 flaws? i can think of one and i am curious on what you think.

Sony is begging companies to develope for it. Alot of people hate working with it. One of the reasons why it doesn't have a very good library of games.

One of the reasons why Madden only ran at 30fps and the 360 verison did it at 60fps. Why Valve vowed to never develope games for the ps3.

EA said sony should scrap the whole thing. I don't know if anything has changed, other than sony taking away almost all of it's features and selling it for 399.

Err can people please stop beating each other up over this issue, it's not really productive, each to their own and all.

The games she plays on PC are, Stalker, MOH Airborne, Doom, Quake, Sims2, Half Life inc Ep 1 and 2, Far Cry. She has also played NWN and Baldurs gate but dislikes the complexity of Oblivion. (Probably dosen't like the fact it has no guns really)

We will take a look at both consoles and the games range but my bet is it will come down to which controller she likes best.

Thank you all for the suggestions and please no more bitchin.

although the 360 controller is bigger, feels more comfortable, then again i am a pretty big guy with decent sized grippers. the 360 also tailors more to using analog stick (the d-pad is there for very minor functions by default). The PS3 on the other hand is more d-pad oriented but analog play is an option.

I stand corrected darq. I was still going by the article from the developer from valve.. talking about it isn't profitable for games on the ps3. I guess they changed their minds. why is it coming out 3 months after the 360 though?
They choose to develop them in that order? I have no Idea. I got the orange box fo PC anyways.

The Blu-Ray player is not a reason to get a game console.

Sorry.

It may be the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market, but I really wouldnt base my spending decision on one feature.

That "one feature" is the future of high def movies.

Maybe.

Its one of the many Sony formats that are doomed to failure.

Im not even going to argue this... point is, there is no future format, its not blu-ray and its not hd-dvd right now.

Blu-ray holds a slight advantage over HD-DVD ONLY due to the PS3 which has dismal sales.

HD movie players right now arent being picked up by the public at all. The advantages of HD movie players are not worth buying such expensive equipment over.

I just think people hype Blu-Ray because its got a cool name... who cares if it holds 78gigs... who cares if it uses an arcaic file format, which requires such a huge disc capacity. ITS A MOVIE PLAYER, THE FUTURE OF WATCHING MOVIES, HOT SHIT.

yeh

lets compare a technology who had its best year at 2.4 million units sold, and where VHS outsold it 3:1, to a technology that sold 6 million units (+ stand alone players)in the first year, is outselling HD-DVD 2:1...

not really apples to apples is it?
