(no longer backlit) Laptop Inverter Replacement Question

Well here's the injured patient:

Starting 6 months ago the backlight suddenly went out. I did some research online and was told to hold a flashlight up to the screen and if I see an image its probably the inverter that went bad, if you can't see it then its probably something else. Well when I did this I could clearly see windows back there. So since I've done my share of pc building / laptop repair I figured I would just replace it. I popped the front plastic off and read the back to be AS023172069 as the inverter type.

So I bought a replacement and replaced it. I hooked it up and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. Then we noticed when you shut the laptop at times it would flash. After a couple more days it kept shorting out it seemed. If I compressed the plastic where the inverter lies it would turn on and if i let off it would die.

Long story short it ended up dieing. So since then I have yet to buy another inverter. Its been 4 months. Now I feel I'm back in the game to fix this thing.

Questions / Concerns

Do you know what my issue is? Is it the fact that its somehow getting grounded in the LCD housing? How can I prevent this issue?

Thanks guys.

might want to check the area where u open and close the lid, wire could be rubbed somewhere. use (cloth) electrical tape to separate the inverter and the frame area and see

cheers ...
