Upgrade CPU for laptop?

I am currently running a Time Traveller A762 laptop, that I have discovered is almost exactly the same as an Advent 7190 laptop. I want to upgrade the CPU from a 1.5GHz Celeron M to a faster dual core processor. I have discovered that the Intel T2250 duo core processor is compatible with my laptop, but i cannot find it anywhere. I am looking to buy a processor that has in the region of 3.0GHz to 3.5GHz when the two cores are combined.

I'm afraid you're mistaken. Your computer will not support a dual-core processor. Dothan CPUs are not interchangeable with Yonah, Merom, or Santa Rosa ones

The best processor that could be put in your computer is a single core Pentium M at 2.23ghz. You could always go for one of the slower models of course, since any of them would be faster than your Celeron.

Hi thanks for your information. I was wondering if i would be able to either put an Intel Pentium M 780 (This has a 533MHz Front Side Bus, is this compatible?) or whether it is possible to change the chipset to a Mobile Intel 945GM Express chipset? Thanks for any help.

You can't change your chipset with out getting a new mother board.

Ok thank you. As my laptop looks identical to the Advent 7109, would i be able to fit a new motherboard that will go into that?, as i don't know what the motherboard is for my laptop.

Just buy a new laptop. You can upgrade RAM and HD. So if it is so slow that you can't deal with it, just get a new one. The questions you are asking are not possible. You could get a faster PM but that is about it.

That is compatible, just like any other processor labeled Pentium M.

And as Darq said, you cant change the chipset without changing the motherboard, which in a laptop means buying a new laptop.

Ok thanks guys for all your help. I think i might buy an Intel Pentium M 780 processorfor this laptop as it is only a few months old. One last thing that i was wondering though, would the chipset severely slow down my ability to run Windows Vista? As my friend has the same size processor (Intel Celeron M 410), and the same amount of RAM, same amount of memory in Graphics Card etc. but his laptop which has a smaller HDD can run Vista really well but mine repeatedly froze (on startup, and whenever i tried to do anything etc.). I ended up restoring it back to my XP Home edition. My friend has an Intel 945GML Chipset. So is it the chipset, or do i need to just clean install a few times?

The Pentium M 780 is WAY overpriced. How much are you finding it for? Everywhere I see it, the price is over $600, which is totally unfair. You could buy yourself a new laptop for that.

If your friend had a 945 chipset and a celeron, he had one of the newer Celerons based on the Core Duo, not one of the older ones based on the Dothan Pentium M.

Theres a lot more than processor speed and chipset that will affect the speed of Vista. Chipset will have one of the smallest impacts. The amountRAM would have the largest impact. Vista doesnt run so smooth unless you have 2GB of RAM. Processor would be next on the list. From my experience, Vista does not run well at all on any single core processor, but, if you have to, the faster it is the better.

Ok, is there an easy way of finding RAM that would be compatible with my laptop?? And I want Vista because I like the user interface and the improved security features on it. Also I was wondering...if i upgraded, would I be able to use my 500GB External Hard Drive as a readyboost?

UPDATE:
OK I have found RAM that is DDR2 PC2-4300, but I cannot find RAM that is 266MHz. Would DDR2 PC2-4300 533MHz be compatible or does it HAVE to be 266MHz?

If all you care about is a flashy interface and what you believe is better security, you might want to look into trying a linux distro. You can install beryl and get some real eye candy and real securety.

the DDR2 in your memory description stands for Double Data Rate 2, so while it's actual frequency is 266 Mhz, it's effective frequency is 533 Mhz. Memory makers advertise the effective frequency, so 533 Mhz RAM will work fine for you.

The RAM doesnt have to match btw. As long as its DDR2 it'll be fine.
