Problems with newer Nvidia drivers.

So I picked up the game Timeshift and it asks to use newer drivers to run the game. I tried running the game with my 92.91 driver, but is blue screened immediately. So I installed their recommended 164.09 driver from LaptopVideo2Go. The driver lets me play the game just fine, but on startup the system will hang for literally 1-2 minutes and the screen will flash off and back on and everything is fine. Now, the frame rates are dropping drastically and even hanging for 30 seconds at a time from time to time.

I've tried many other 100 series drivers and they are all giving me the same headache. Is there a fix for this? Is this common for the 6800 series cards?

Nothing higher than normal. Definitely not hot enough to throttle the CPU or GPU.

CPU under load is about 66-67.
GPU under load is about 85-86.

OK, that seems about normal.

Are you uninstalling the drivers with Driver Cleaner and CCleaner? LINK

Yes, I am fully cleaning the system of previous drivers when installing this new one.

Ok, I reinstalled the 169.04 driver and completely cleaned out the system before installing it. So far it's working, but I'll see after a few reboots if it's still doing ok. Seems like it would start acting up after rebooting a few times. I'll report back.
