Well I've been doing my research, trying to decide what my next laptop is going to be as my gateway solo 2500 of 4+ years just doesn't cut it anymore. I was origninally leaning toward alienware but stumbled onto pctorque after doing a little searching and realized I could get a better laptop with better support for much cheaper than alienware!
I was all ready to get the 8790 but as I read through these forums I realized that this laptop just isn't for me. I'm a college student in computer engineering and I basically carry my laptop with me everywhere. I need something portable and powerfull with good battery life. I knew the 8790 is suppossed to be a desktop replacement but I figured I could still carry it around with me anyway. But the issues with fan noise, heat, and short battery life just aren't going to work for me. I just saw that the heat and fan issues will be fixed with the next rev of the 8790 but that 17" screen is really the killer for me. I checked out a 17" widescreen laptop at BestBuy and man that thing is HUGE. Very nice but way too big to carry around or put in your lap.
So I started considering my options, checked out the other models offered at pctorque, cyberpower, hypersonic, voodoo, etc... Hypersonic's CX6 seemed to really be what I wanted with a battery life of 4-5 hours and an ati 9700 but the 1200 x 800 LCD just isn't enough. My next choice was the ax6 with the 64 bit amd but it only has an ati 9600. Well I heard that hypersonic was going to release a laptop equivalent to voodoo's envy m:860 so I emailed them last night asking if they were in fact going to release a notebook similar to the envy m:860. I got a reply this morning and here is what is said:
Thank you for your interest in Hypersonic PC Systems.
Please excuse our delay in response as we needed to check with another department to be able to better assist you with your inquiry.
We are going to introduce a similar system shortly. However we did not get a date or specific time frame from our manufacturing partners as of yet. We were going to release this last month but found several design flaws that led to a delay in the release. Stay tuned.
We look forward to hearing from you again soon.
I know hypersonic is expensive but with a 72 hour burn in test, 2 way shipping coverage, an awesome dead pixel policy, and some great reseller ratings I figured it would be well worth the money, so I'm definitely going to wait on the ax7 (or whatever model number they're going to give it).
Don't know if anyone really cares but I thought someone might like to know about the ax7. I have heard that hypersonic is a little slow in shipping systems out so it could be june before you actually get it.
Cheers to the ax7 and getting rid of this horrid gateway! (it should make a nice mp3 player in my car
)

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up. I didn't bother to call, figured I would just drop an email and see how long it took to reply. I was very impressed that it only took a few hours to get an answer. I'm sure the sales departments are always just a little faster than the tech departments
!
