Well my 8790 came in, Initial impressions.

Ordered it Friday April 2nd, 2004
Recieved it Wednesday April 8th, 2004

PCTORQUE amd Sager do a very good job. It would be nice to at least least see a status on the website. Even if it is nothing more than "Order being configured", until you get the e-mail.

ON the outside of the box it indicated that I had 1 60 Gig HD, so thanks to the car adapter the first thing I did was boot it up and validate that there are in fact 2 60 Gig Drives in my machine.

LCD is perfect, so far. Not a single bad pixel. Resolution is just right, although I now understand why some people want a Higher Res 17 inch LCD. Adobe Photoshop CS runs great.

After Bible Study tonight it will be a few more tests and installs. Thanks to the joys of mlb.tv and this guy I can Install product, run tests, and Watch a baseball game on the same machine at the same time.

Yes the notebook is loud, But not terribly so. And Yes this guy has some heat issue, but I just got a destop replacement in the size of a notebook, I cannot say I am surprised.

Will do some testing with Far Cry, and UT 2004 later this week/weekend.

Nice, sounds like a good machine except for the SCREEN of course (my biggest issue.)

Nothing like a night of bible study then killing mo-fo's in Far Cry and UT2004.

Where do you live? I ask because I ordered on Friday, but changed my order on Monday.

I think Camlost has some serious dirt on someone to get a turnaround that fast. lol. Cause I'm still waiting for mine. *goes back to being jaded, edgy, and nervous* Congrats on your new toy, and I hope it works as great as any such awesome machine should.

Perhaps he picked a lesser configuration, therefore his unit was ready to go while you guys might be waiting on certain parts (ie- 3.4 Northwood, etc.). Just a guess.

Camlost, good to hear that you're part of the club now. Your comment about not being surprised about the heat from a desktop replacement is pretty much how I feel. It's a trade-off. Silly to think that it wouldn't be hot considering the same CPU in a desktop generally has a HUGE heatsink/fan combo plus miscellaneous other supporting fans throughout the case. Makes me shake my head when I read some of the posts around here about heating issues

Well It's looking like it will actually just be the Notebook tonight, as Bible study was canceled.

I actually like the screen. 1440x900 seems absolutely perfect for the screen size. Fonts not too big, and not too small.

Buster,

The fact that you didn't get one right now and will have the updated one may not be a bad thing. Remember that song about "unanswered prayers"?
