More likely by "replaced" he meant he had a M1710 with a Dell platinum or completecare warranty and the noteboob failed under warranty. Then Dell monumentally screwed-up fixing his computer, he complained for 20 hours to five different levels of Dell customer support until it got kicked up to the executive level escalation resolution specialists, and the rep offered him a built to spec M1730 as a major concession to him for Dell's screw-up/series of screw ups and Dellsn's 20 hours of complaining.
Or he could have just bought it from a Dell rep assigned to his business who hooked him up with a fat discount.
Or actually paid full price and then decided to sell it for a $1000 loss.
