When my 3 year old Vaio PGC-K25 boots, it looks fine but the display is shrunk. This behavior is what happens when on my Dell laptop I turn off the "stretch display" option in BIOS settings, but the Sony has no such settings. It is thus only using the middle 640x480 pixels of the 1024x768 native resolution.
When windows boots up the screen is blank (backlight on) but I can tell windows boots up because I can see it on the network. I can't boot into windows safe mode either.
Funny thing is, under Ubuntu Linux the display works fine (I am using the Live CD version), but I don't want to lose my Windows hard disk.
It's Windows XP Home, and I haven't figured out how to get in with Remote Desktop.
I have tried a number of function key and "Fn" key combinations, but no changes result. Even an external monitor, and pressing Fn+F7 key doesn't make any difference, but the monitor and the laptop display are both on. It works the same under Linux and Windows.
Any thoughts on getting Windows working right again?
