Help M170 Crashes on Battery Power

I have a Dell XPS M170 notebook. 2.13gz cpu, 7800gtx, 2gb ram. I
t works fine on AC but when I disconnect the power supply the display goes into a fuzzy green/blue and the system crashes. I have to press the on/off switch for 5 seconds to restart/recover.

I have just installed NHC and it tells me that ACPI is not yet configured for this system, although on device manager their are no yellow ! so system is good.
I have also run Dell diagnostics and no faults displayed their.
Also in Safe mode the laptop doesn't crash on battery power. I have also disabled Nvidia powermizer but that didn't help.

Suggestions would be most welcome as I do like to use this laptop on the move.
Thanks
Terry

not sure its linked but my m1710 crashed when you removed the power lead due to new nvidia drivers, going back to stock dell video drivers sorted that out.

that made screen go white hashed and green.

good luck

Yes that is the same symptom that I have.
Unfortunately I am have the Dell Stock driver installed. I would like to get the original dell 7800gtx driver back but this has no been updated by a newer Dell driver and I haven't got the original one saved.

I would use a driver from laptop video 2 go but not sure which one to use as there are hundreds on offer?
