oK HERES THE SCORE.....

Have just received xps 1730 with blueray.....I have had so many headaches with it....

Blueray will not play on battery alone just flickers and flashes....Is this normal??

Continual freeze ups??? Programmes not rsponding???

So I am within my 7 working days to return and am thinking of changeing to one of your beloveds....

Help please???

What blueray drive does the alienware use?? Dell is the matsushita uj 220 i think.

Spec i want is t7600 over dells T7500
sli 7950 over sli 8700gt
4 gb ram over 2 gb ram
screen size the same
vista over xp pro...

Any impartial advice for me as i have 2 days to spec this up IF ITS WORTH IT!!

I am concerned about the build quality of the alienware as the dell id rock solid and also am concerned i am going backwards with the graphics card but appreciate its probably faster for gaming.....Is dirext x 10 that big a deal over the graphics performance??

So many questions so little time??

Any comments appreciated.........Price difference is about £2250 to £2400 but i can live with that..

Thanks

sup-

Ok here is my 2 cents. (mind you my m9759 is supposed to ship tommorow after 1 week build time!)

You can see the config I got below in my sig. Went with xp MCE because vista is still giving me poblems(rarely use it on my desktop, dual boot).

The price that is offered now is awsome(US site). 8700m cards are ok cards(med range) but still no where near 7950 performance. However the m9750 sli drivers(I may be incorrect here so someone please correct if I'm wrong) are a little wacky and not up to full speed yet.

Personally not a fan of blue ray. I really don't see a need/demand for it but thats just my opinion. I recommend the 3 year warrenty though to help cover accidents/upgrades. The case that AW uses is by Arima and is I think the same as the m9700 which was a rock solid build. Plus it's gotta be more portable than the 1730. Personally I havn't been impressed with DX10 to warrent it on a lappy and if it does mature I'll use my desktop for DX10 and use DX9 on my lappy for games. Just my thoughts. good luck

You're worried about AW's build quality, but you bought a Dell?

build quality from an alienware is far better than the dell that i have ever owned...

Hi there,

I would say since m9750 comes with 8700gt SLi, then gaming won't be much of difference between those two. 3dmark counts towards cpu marks, that is the reason there are difference in scores of those two. But in real world usage, I bet u don't see any type of differences. It's like someone said, it's better to know ur RAM is utilize in Vista rather than "wasted" in XP (since everyone keeps saying the eye candy hogging the system and stuff). In other words, the cpu power could be that much of the difference, but what's the difference if u don't even use the margin ?

I'll choose XPS over m9750 if my games were utilizing physics like GRAW 2, even tho the weigh differences reach up to 2-3 lbs.

As mentioned, if weigh or design is a concern for you, you might want to reconsider and list down which one suits ur lifestyle better.

I have actually cancelled my xps 1730 today within the cooling period and its going back tommorow...I have been so dissapointed with it on battery power to be honest.....

I have decided to purchase an Alienware lappy now but am concerned about the new laptop coming out before xmas and whether it will have a better spec or even 8800gt onboard??

Is 4gb ram worth the investment over 2 gb aswell???

depends on what you do...

I've had a machine w/ 2gb and now a machine w/ 4gb (although it only recognizes 3gb..."damn you 945 chipset!")....I only play games, watch movies, and surf the interweb...2gb vs 4gb...I can't tell a "damn" difference...

so save your money =D

If and only if alienware release a system this month with the santa rosa chipset onboard will vista home premium recognize 4gb as ive been told that i will need vista 64 bit to get it too????

The thing is when i do a vista machine spec run to see what score my laptop gets it always gets 4.7 which is the lowest denominator and its always the ram whereas the graphics and processor get 5.5 to 5.6??

I really want 4 gb but just cant justify the price unless its neccesary for games like crysis for instance.

Not really....

Dell OWNS AW, but they have to date left them intact and as they were pre-purchase (for the most part). To the best of my knowledge, no manufacturing or production has changed.... Yet.....

Dell does own alienware but dell has no say in what computers alienware puts out... alienware develops their own line of computers....
