Well other forums have bought it up...I want nothing but INFO, no flaming please.

I had vista, it did not work well at all for me. I am back to XP...Does anybody know of a very easy patch or if MSoft will release a patch for XP for DX 10 so that I can enjoy it?

No, DX10 is Vista only.

Darq I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to write what is written on the box and that very good research...I know for a fact people have DX10 running on XP...I am curious as to if Msoft has said anything or anybody has located a easy patch for it.

Will DirectX 10 be available for Windows XP?

No. Windows Vista, which has DirectX 10, includes an updated DirectX runtime based on the runtime in Windows XP SP2 (DirectX 9.0c) with changes to work with the new Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) and the new audio driver stack, and with other updates in the operating system. In addition to Direct3D 9, Windows Vista supports two new interfaces when the correct video hardware and drivers are present: Direct3D9Ex and Direct3D10.
Since these new interfaces rely on the WDDM technology, they will never be available on earlier versions of Windows. All the other changes made to DirectX technologies for Windows Vista are also specific to the new version of Windows. The name DirectX 10 is misleading in that many technologies shipping in the DirectX SDK (XACT, XINPUT, D3DX) are not encompassed by this version number. So, referring to the version number of the DirectX runtime as a whole has lost much of its meaning, even for 9.0c. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DXdiag.exe) on Windows Vista does report DirectX 10, but this really only refers to Direct3D 10.

However, there is a project that has attempted to reverse-engineer it to work in XP. You can find their site here: http://alkyproject.blogspot.com/ Whether this will ultimately be successful is unknown.

yeah I am running crysis MP beta in a hacked DX10 mode. Looks pretty good even w/o AA being available in the beta. Just...2 more days. The project has been running for some time. They still have not managed to get it running right, but I am sure at some point there will be some DX10 "emulation" available. Too many ppl are determined to stay with XP now, but would like the added features of DX10.

Sitting in the airport is so much fun. Anyways. DX10 has not really impressed me all that much... It's a nice "refresh" but it has a long way to go before any games use it to it's full potential. AS I said in another thread, I will probably play around with Crysis in DX10, but will probably play in XP for the most part.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get DX 10 on Vista. The downloads on Microsoft's DirectX site don't actually say anything about DX 10. Does the latest Nov. release have it?
DX10 is integrated. no download needed
