E1705 Crashing when gaming - Page 2

have you tried lowering the clocks? or same result?
Could we try to keep this thread on topic guys. I personally have no problem going off topic after the OP has received his answer (unless its a relatively new topic) but as far as I know no one has even done that. Sorry Doughy, I'm a bit busy now but I will be sure to look into this shortly.
looks on topic to me
Hey doughy, I may be going out on a limb here but - try Fn+F2 to disable your wireless and bluetooth before you play. Test it again and see if your results are any different...

Post 6,7,10,11, 15, and 19 are all off topic.

On a hardware level, I only suspect the GPU or Mobo.

To make sure its not a software conflict I'd reinstall with only the audio, cpu, gpu, and ethernet drivers. Not even any other software really. And then try to run a game, say an old game that used to run fine. This is of course only if you had the time.

I agree with that to an extent zz, but after adding up all of the little discoveries on this system over the years, I tend to push common sense aside and look even deeper. The WIFI is one that puzzles me on these systems. Whether its the card that resides in the slot, or the slot itself, there tends to be an odd amount of instability surrounding it. Just a matter of ruling things out I suppose.

Ok krayziepop, i will try that mate, i will let you know what happens.

Yeah wireless is definitely finicky on these machines, especially if you have an atheros (although mine works fine after using a 5 series driver). Anyway, I would suggest lowering the clocks too but the fact is that the 7900GS stock clocks are crazy low so theres almost no point. Its already running way lower frequencies than it could be rated at.

well i ran ati tool to scan for artifacts for 30 mins and it got to 91 deg C so i think its definatley a heat problem here, If i was playing a game im sure it would go higher. The other factor i guess is the room temp is quite high, the wife likes it nice and warm at home and to be honest it almost seems like middle of summer in my living room although its winter. But it has crashed when the heating wasnt on.
I will try and re-do the gpu heatsink with some AS5 to see if that will help.
On idle at the room temp its running at 65C.
Yea - those temps are getting up there - on idle you should be closer to 50deg, when gaming mage sure the fans are on high and you have good airflow under your laptop. I'm assuming your running some form of fan control - if not then recommend running one.

Could just be crashing due to high temps forcing core slowdown at 102 deg. Which is hot - dam hot!!!

Well i have changed my gou as in my sig, the crashes are still here. Im thinking its the onboard sound card now. I will have to disable it and see how it goes. I cannot get a new motherboard at the moment. Its definatley not overheating as the cpu was at no more than 60c and gpu highest with nvtemp logger 74c.
I pissed with this system right now, the only thing it cant do is play games for very long. And thats what i bought it for

I just re-read this whole thread cuz its been so long ha.

Is it the same problem, still the sound goes haywire? Does it crash back to the desktop or just freeze?

Do you still have warranty?

Have you disabled the wifi and Bluetooth?

Does Windows run fine when youre not gaming?

Since you have your new card have you been monitoring temps?

What games specifically freeze?

Like zzPulp said, have u been able to get any 3d app to play properly?

Age of empires 3 , Quake Wars, COD4 . The temps are good in there low 70's for graphics and 60c for cpu.
The games work fine until it crashes. It could be an hour or 30 minutes.

Try disabling your audio, I might even go as far as to uninstall the driver and see how it goes?

ALso, I noticed your new HDD, did this happen with the 120GB @ 7200RPM?

no it didnt but ive done a hard drive test and it passes all tests.
I would say swap hardware and troubleshoot until death. Swap the HDD and play for like and hour and see if it does. Also, try uninstalling the driver for the audio card. Let us know how it goes
post #40 of 72
I would put all my money on the motherboard.
