Looking at the HD options, which would be more beneficial...

160GB 5400 RPM Hybrid drive w/256 MB Flash memory
160GB 7200 RPM Drive

I understand the 5400 would save on power usage and heat, but what about boot times and overall speed? about the same as 7200?
I talked with someone about a different computer a couple of years back. He said that heat from the hard drive is minimal. Virtually no difference between a 7200 and a 5400 rpm drive.

I have a 5400 rpm drive. The only game where load times are excessive is The Witcher.

In all the notebooks I have owned I have not noticed a substantial difference between the 5400 or the 7200 in battery life, heat or performance. I usually just go with the 5400 anymore.

I have read that the hybrid drives are not all that helpful. You may explore either getting the readyboost (built-in 1GB flash) or putting a 4GB flash card in an expresscard adapter. Either way will give some speed boost now, and hopefully more when Vista SP1 is ready.

I really hope they keep the m5550 too. My wife really wanted to get an alienware lappy at the end of the month and she just surfs the net and stuff and $999 is a good price.

That engadget article talks about a totally new designed case 'Skullcap and Ripley' I'm curious to see how it compares to the 9750.

I hope they don't change the look to much, the m9750 has a sweet case.
I can see where it might be different because of the task to cool the beasts!

I agree, I like the look of the 9750, I hope they dont make it look too much like the Dell 1730.

I am loving the back lit keys!

It looks like they are going for a brushed aluminum look. I have no doubt this will be a pretty lappy.

I am glad I waited, cause this is the machine of my dreams.

Whatever it is, I want it in black.

Ah, my exam was Thursday and I was waiting from Monday. It went so fast like it's only 2 days. Now 4 days of waiting for my future will be m15x, it feels like 4 weeks. I know for sure I will hate the wait

the picture that someone took of the page show the m17x looking just like the m9750... i cant tell the difference... maybe they just named to cover of the computer differently...
This will be interesting. I'm not counting on the 15" version having the GO 8800GTX, even though the leaked screenshots would lead us to that. It's always possible that they hadn't completed the web design yet for the customization, and what we're seeing is just the template for the 17".

But, it would, indeed be very cool if the new 15" is a powerhouse.
