new 15" & 17" laptops w/ 8800m GTX! - Page 7

When you look at the image of the four laptops, its the same image for the m15x and the m17x. Im wondering if the image is just a place holder for the real images. These might look totally different then what we have seen from AW so far.

That's exactly what i'm thinking, too. I think we're in for a pleasant surprise come Monday.

I have the fear that all these excitement will turn into nightmare if we really the first hand guinea pigs. Hope there won't be any heat issues or hardware issues such as cpu whining sounds, popping sounds, etc. I know the fact that Alienware tested their product thoroughly, which make the reason why they aren't always the first to sport the new technology for instance Dell's the first to SLi 8700m and Eversham 2nd (except for the 8800gtx in 15 incher).

However, I still will be waiting this Monday to make one of the first order for the m15x. I always trust them and always will be.

AW was the first to come out with SLI I believe, Dell was the first one to have the 8700's but AW is the first to have the 8800's. I'm sure the new lappys will be awesome. I just hope we can upgrade out 9750's

Yup u got that right. I specifically say and meant 8700m. So that must happen for a reason. If usually they pioneered technology or product, but last time they had m9700 (single-cored SLi system) and m9750 (non-Santa Rosa platform) and m5550 with 7600gt as for the graphic card. So if you get what I mean, my point is that it's better that way cause you know your system has been thru a thorough check and test so that it will work perfectly when it reach our hands.

Rather than having a half-done experimental product that will need to be returned because of hardware issues or stuff like that..

I know what you mean. I'm sure they've done the proper testing and all. You going to slap some money down on one of these bad boys?
It would be cool to go to Alienware and get a tour of the facility. I've heard that they will do that under certain circumstances. I think Hammerhead has seen the facility. The work that is done during the Q/A process to make sure your system is working properly seems to be very extensive and well thought out.

I am indeed. m9700 was a lemon and I got replacement for mine. Since the don't offer that anymore, I am going to get one of these ( I am more interested on the m15x since my exp with 17incher it's too heavy and limited mobility) as the replacement for sure. Ah cmon Monday can't go any faster right now.

If those photos from the Crave website are any indication, this will be a departure from the norm. This may prompt me to get a new one after all.

scottwmp,

I suggest u get the 17incher if you will be on the go alot and need a performance of a desktop where ever u go. That's saying, if you go to ur friends house alot, LAN parties, or even travel. Also, if you don't have any system (especially desktop) at home, 17 incher is a great option.

But when you have desktop and can sport sub-400 USD 8800gt in SLi which obvious are more powerful than 8800gtx mobile in SLi at a price tag of 1000 USD, 17 incher notebook is kinda lose it's point. It won't move much around our houses like it's a desktop or desktop replacement, so might as well utilize the power of desktop that we already have for better performance. And that makes 15 incher is a better option.

So again, it depends. Hope this helps. And oh, in case money isn't a issue, just get both.

Thanks der_red.
This will be my primary machine. We have limited space and the laptop works out great. As far as travel, I don't do hardly any if any at all. I will take it to work with me, but that is about it.
I am hedging towards the 17" with just a single 8800 for now and add a second one later when the price becomes a little more reasonable.

I see. Then 17incher would fit u well. Can't wait till tomorrow.
