@NavyDad,

why would they say free upgrade when they charge you 450 for the SLi 8800gtx?

Hopefully you are happy with the purchase and order.

If you look, the free upgrade is from the SLI 8700. If you select SLI 8700, there is no added charge for the SLI 8800. Now I am assuming that the price for the SLI 8700 is inflated a bit to make up for the difference. But that is my skeptical side showing.

I'm gonna wait for the m17x to come out, and Sager's new 17inch to come out and compare the two before jumping in a buying. Hopefully your laptop runs well, and yeah, a lot of Alienware lovers here. So watch what your post!!

Patience is the name of the game.

It is a little bit of a let down based on the hype.
But, I hope they don't do pre-orders to early because it creates undue anxiety and stress on those that lay down the money.
When they are ready, they are ready.

There is thing that I don't get it. About the config page leaked, is that just one of the gimmick or what? Or it is a leak?

I mean I thot the page supposed to be a config page, so that gives some hints that it is under construction and stuff. However after the press conf., I wouldn't be surprise to know if Alienware is releasing this somewhere in Feb-March of 2008. Come on Alienware, stop teasing again and again.

So this hint me something, it's either there will be a surprise (getting beyond customer expectation), or same ol drill like what happened to m9750.

I have a question. Is the wireless card self-upgradable? like can I take MIMO and upgrade to draft-N later on?

It could be one or the other. I just hope that they don't release for pre-order to soon ahead of the actual release.

Hey guys, am I wrong to assume that the m15x or m17x will run on the Santa Rosa chip set? Same question on the Dell XPS m1730 also.

I was about to jump the gun for the Dell but saw AW annoucement on the m8800 card...glad I waited.
No you are not wrong. You get the option of the 1GB Robson card and you need the 965 chipset. Also, you can get the x7900 which is SR if I am not mistaken. I will have to go to Intel's website to be sure.

Thanks for the pics though .
Ok my bad.....

Were to start, my impression is prolly a Santa Rosa chipset..... hmmm 9 months late to the party
Hard to tell, but looks like webcam omitted...... again........ (not counting 9700 and malx of course)
That lcd bezel, omg so big!!!! soooo 3 years ago.....
imho the gloss black has nothing on the 9750 matte....jmo
And oh the worst offense, the bottom half looks to be 2 inches tall !!!unforgivable....(I know exaggeration....but damn thats thick) Understandable maybe on the 17" sli, but the i5".....well look at MAcBooks.....theres really no excuse for that size....
Oh yeah.... right side ports....When will anyone, not just AW learn..... keep high use ports off the freakin right side of the notebook where my MOUSE likes to sit.....

But not all gloom n doom,
backlit KB, - YES although the key grfx looks tacky as hell
What appears to be a stealthed TP, YES - wonder how well it will work/be received though
Bluetooth, YES - again a feature AW has been wayyyyy late to the party with (not counting 9700 and malx of course)
HDMI, YES!!!! only a year late to this party........
Return of the smartbay 2ndary battery, YES

And finally when they get the whole thing shipped, Ill have had a slimmer, feature superior/equivalent laptop (exception to the uber high end grfx), for prolly 1/2 the price one year ago.

And again by the time they get it shipped others will have the new intel chipsets hitting in a month or two later....

For a company that is supposed to be cutting edge, someone should tell em that sli grfx is only part of a larger equation they are missing out on.

I know, here come teh flames.....
I reserve the right to amend this oppinion as these are initial impressions that may vary when the final product is released...... haha like that corporate speak

If you really dont like my opinion you can always call my 800 number, my call center is located right next to AW's South American one...... good luck trying to get anything to me though cuz no one at my call center speaks a lick of english....hahahaha

archalien,

to be honest, there are lots of things that I have to agree with u. I even mention somewhere in this forum that Alienware are famous and well-known as technology pioneer and stuff, but the truth is, for now, they are not.

So let's head to this thread and discuss on how we could give feedback about the bad color option:

http://www.notebookforums.com/thread208067.html

I am aware that we couldn't make the laptop thinner and lighter now, since it's already went thru R&D and is going thru introduction phase. But I firmly believe change of color is a high possibility since it's has nothing to do with the interior and inner-design of the product (laptop). It's only the color.
