new 15" & 17" laptops w/ 8800m GTX! - Page 5

Frankly, it wouldn't bother me at all to get the 8700(512mb) for the 15.4" laptop. I'm not the ultimate gamer anyway, and it would serve my development purposes tremendously.

Does the 8600 256mb perform greater than the 7600 did?

I found this link that might help you out with that question:

GPU Linky

I had to use that site for one of my classes, and it's come in handy from time to time.

I am drooling over the possibilities of the 15.4" laptop...

a 15.4" is very portable and with an 8600 is a dream come true. Now if they would only release this card for the m5550...
thanks for the link to the GPU's.EDIT: the 600 core and 700 Memory clocks are a big change from the Geforce go 7600.

Your m5550 is a great laptop. I still have regrets about buying my m5500 and the m5550 coming out less than a month after I got mine.

alienware today on customer support and technical support denied that they even offer the 320 gig hard drives in laptops... i had to argue with them for about 10 minutes on the issue... and then out of the blue she was like ok ive ordered your hard drive it will be there in three days... WTF... i asked her how is it that one minute you dont have the hard drive and deny that alienware even cares it and then magically it appears right in from of her... but in the end i got it for 172.96... oh yeah... then she told me that i couldnt even use the 10 % discount that is given to loyal alienware customers... that didnt fly to well with me... i would hope she was a new person, if not then she needs to look for a new job...

man...that just sucks for you. That kind of incident has never happened to me before.

more about the notebook graphic cards info such as memory clock, memory speed, bus etc.

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...ist.844.0.html

head out there. It's not that precise but it will gives you some insights about the graphic performance range.

Hope that helps.

Question someone might be able to answer. It appears that the 17xx can have 3 HDDs (2 + that "SmartBay"), while the 15xx has one, plus the Smart... any know if the 15xx might support RAID then?
I would assume they will have it available but I think anything like this is pure speculation at this point. But if they are putting in the most powerful graphics card available for notebooks, and upping the processors and the suchs, I would imagine it is an oversight for them to not allow raid when multiple hard drives are present.

I would have to agree with your statement concerning RAID. If you have a smart bay, you should be able to set up a RAID.

I just can't wait to see the final product.

ditto

I wonder if these new beauties include a web cam or not...
In looking at the screen shots, it looks like the 15" is non-RAID. At least that's what it looks like.
The 17" according to the screen shots has a raid option.
But, I guess we will have to wait and see.
Hopefully they offer RAID on both.

The Smart Bay drive replaces your optical drive, so a RAID setup would lose one drive every time you need to load a CD.

Hopefully this means that some of the benefits of Dell's technology will make their way to Alienware. I would like to have the option of a secondary battery to swap out with the optical drive, and perhaps docking options.
The Smart bay idea sounds good. A secondary battery would be awesome especially for those long trips without AC power.

Thanks guy, I didn't realize what the "Smart Bay" was, so that makes sense. I was thinking it was a dream come true... a WUXGA 15.4" laptop that could do RAID. Portable and Powerful, but I'll live with the 17".
