I was interested that Dell has an ad showcasing Alienware's new notebook... and gaming consoles.
That's because Dell bought Alienware.

Understood, but many stories about the Dell / Alienware transaction stated that Dell and Alienware would remain separate entities. Now Dell has an ad for Alienware.

Yes, they are just advertising Alienware and redirecting the ad to Alienware.com, but they're not selling Alienwares.

Advertising and redirecting would constitute selling... but I know what you mean, they don't produce Alienware systems.

Well, my 7700 died again, this time AW rep says probably hard drives, so it's be another four or five days w/ out it and then the lovely rebuild time. This is the fourth time my 7700 has gone down so it makes it real hard to pull the trigger (yet alone keep waiting) on the m17x.

I think I'm really leaning towards PC Torque's Sager 9262 now, or maybe the Dell XPS m1730. Both run the 8800M in SLI but the PC Torque's Sager 9262 gives me a bigger bang for my buck....

Very sad and depressed right now..but what can ya do?

pat!

Went with XoticPC, nice machine, VERY powerful and ready to roll...I am sad about not getting the 17x, but we all have our own histories w/ various companies and it's time to move on to a new thing i guess! None of that takes away from my love my 7700! It's not like I'm getting rid of it! I just hope I can get it to work again!

later,
pat!

Pat,

Nice system! They set you up for a dual boot and you install Win XP Pro, that's neat. What are they using to cool that setup?

Albatross! Thanks man! The dual boot will be set up by my tech folks here at my office, it's a quick and easy fix w/ Vista as the primary and I get an educational discount on XP.

Scott, thanks man! 7700 back up and running and I'm currently setting it up w/ three user accounts for wife and kids...how many 8 and 4 year olds get an Alien to use! How cool are they????

Spartan, thanks again, checking PM now!

pat!

That is quite the machine! My only concern would be their use of desktop processors. I'm not sure I could handle another Sager, the 5282 I used to own was smoking (literally!). The lack of Binary GX is also a concern with battery life.

Come to think of it, are the 17" models supposed to support Binary GFX?

well, hopefully the lapcool 4 will help w/ cooling as much as possible and as for the battery, i hear ya for sure ! But I almost never game w/out being AC'd in...

I can't get on the Alienware site. Maybe good news? Possibly a site update showing the M17x?
Let's hope so Albatross! Maybe the black m15x will be finally released? O.o
But, then again, the server could be down because of maintenence or other problems.
False alarm. Still no m17x or Black m15x.

oh god my 7700 DIED AGAIN! It is now officially laughable...I can't wait for my Xotic Sager...this is insane, but at least I've been referred to the critical issues team at AW. It's time for them to step up and take care of a machine that has been sent back three times, had hard drives and video cards replaced and experienced three other BIOS and/or OS deaths...good lord, I really honestly don't do anything but game on it !!

JEEEEEPERS!

well, at least my new one is soon to be in my hands...

yeah...methinks the mothership has some serious problems on her hands...

...the critical issues team at AW (yeah, the MiB!) are now on my case and I've convinced them, given my machines long and ugly history (i LOVE it when it's working!) that me shipping it back to them is NOT an option and they will let me know within 24 hours what the alternative course of action is...i'm hopeful they'll do the right thing...whatever that is...

pat!
