new 15" & 17" laptops w/ 8800m GTX! - Page 46

Well, my MiB came through....after three years of ecstasy and agony w/ my 7700 (ecstasy when it was working, agony when it wasn't) my MiB came through with a full original price credit upon return. So, essentially, I get to buy an entirely new rig and after just under $5 grand to do it...since I'm getting a Sager 9262 from Xotic PC which is infinitely more powerful than any lappy AW has right now (and certainly it seems a more stable but no one can tell the future), my wife says "ENOUGH laptops..." So I'm going to get an AW desktop instead. I am thoroughly frustrated that it took three years (well two years of problems anyway) to get to this point but all due respect and kudos goes to AW for making right on a bad product...so now I have to think 'desktop', which I haven't done in years!!!

later,
pat!

That's great news pad11! You are definitely right, AW always comes through for their customers! I'm still waiting on my repairs...

Spartan! Hang in there! And if it KEEPS breaking down, stay on them and get them to do the right thing by you while you're in warranty!

later,
pat!

Thanks alot Pad11. I really appreciate your kind words It's a tough process.

Indeed it is, and I frankly had to act and conduct myself in a way that just simply isn't me. But I was getting NOWHERE being nice. In the end, I feel like I have been treated correctly but it took WAY TOO LONG to get to this point. Still, the serendipity of it is, now I have an UBER lappy from Sager/Xotic AND a pretty darn nice desktop coming from AW that allows me to keep my AW Pride!

later,
pat!

Glad it worked out well for you pad!

thanks scott! indeed, in the end, it did...i'm getting an UBER-sager from Xotic and I get to stay in the Alienware family (actually, my FAMILY does because the desktop is essentially theirs!).

later,
pat!

Good news Pat. After a long wait, the AW critical issues tech, finally is giving me a refund! I'm happy, finally, after 3 times of sending it in for repairs he told me to send it in for the refund.

Did you have to send everything back to them, or just the notebook?
Spartan, to get as much $$ as you can, send EVERYTHING BACK. I'm even sending my nice AW back-pack. The only thing I'm keeping are the OZMA 7s (oh man they are the BEST) and a stupid mini-mouse that I ordered but BROKE and I threw away. I'm still going to try and get the $ for it, damn thing lasted two months....

Remember, when you spec out a replacement, consider your warranty and shipping into the price. I'm thinking of EATING the shipping (i.e., going about $200 above what my credit is and just paying that...).

later and congrats...finally you're getting the result you wanted!

later,
pat!

False alarm... Pad11 I emailed the AW tech critical issues rep again to make sure that this is a full refund and he said that the bill refund was supposed to be for my shipping if I ship it to them via UPS. So, that sucks big time. I knew that this was too good to be true. He said that AW is only able to offer a replacement or credit after the 30 day period. Back to the drawing board. I still have hope.

I know. Keep me in your prayers...guys haha.
thats one reason why its a good idea to get the extra warranty you never know what will happen...
If don't end up with a replacement, then I would definitely up my warranty for another 2 years.
yeah definitely up it if u keep it....

That's bad news. I'm glad that I never decided to go SSD.

Spartan,

The second link, Direct2Dell, is interesting. They are disputing the SSD Failure story circulating on many blogs.

"Here's the real story: the 20 - 30% failure and return rates cited by Avian Securities don't even vaguely resemble what's happening in our business. It's also true that Avian did not contact us while doing their research. Said another way, it's just not true.

Our global reliability data shows that SSD drives are equal to or better than traditional hard disk drives we've shipped. Beyond that, return rates for SSDs are in line with our expectations for new technology and an order of magnitude better than rates reported in the press.

The vast majority of our customers who purchased these drives appreciate the benefits that SSD drives offer: increased durability, fast start up, better reliability and improved access times."
