Internal Wireless card range. - Page 3

look at the pictures near the beginning of the thread. my wifi card is exactly like that. I did exactly what the other guy did, moved the grey wire from the contact on the left of the card to the empty one on the right of the card. it worked.

My black wire was tucked under my hd, so i pulled it out. I placed the black wire on the outer port, and the gray is in the inner. It seems to work alot better.

More wi-fi problems

It seems as though I got my wi-fi to connect and HOLD a connection for longer than 4 minutes. My next problems is this: when I shut off my computer and restart, I lose my wi-fi connection settings and have to retype in the WEP settings to get back my connection. I switched the gray wires as discussed and the connection seems to hold but now that issue of re-starting and losing my settings is a problem. Anyone else having this problem? Thanks in advance for all your help.

I have been entertaining the idea of making some similar switches to get better wifi connections...but I have a silly question. What is the official word from Sager or PCtorque on this matter. Someone, somwhere has to have the proper specs for this. Can someone official from either place give us the skinny on what these wires do and what is the proper configuration for wifi only and wifi and bluetooth configurations.

Just trying to get the right info since we seem to get conflicting information.

many thanks to all in the community

I agree with you TM. I asked way back on 5/26/04 in this thread for PCTORQUE to weigh in on this issue and to give us the real deal. No response so far.

feel bad about your problem but i don't have that kind of problem before and after switching these 2 wires.
yes, i use wep and connect to wireless router dlink di-614+ which in turn connects to dsl modem.
may be you would make a poll to see how many users have this kind of problem and how did they fix it ?

reply from Sager

So basically the wires are just antenas and it doesnt matter which one plugged to which module. But one question is still unanswered -- what for there are two plugs on the WIFI card PErhaps someone can add on this.

Cheers.

Quote:
Hi Alex,

The both plugs look plug in to the right position, it doesn’t matter which color use on which card since they are just antenna; if you feel both plugs are plug in tightly and you still get very poor signal, please submit your laptop’s serial number and obtain a RMA number to send the wireless card back for a replacement.

Subject: WLAN card setup question. (Thread:4289)

Hello.

I have very weak signal strength on my 8790 wireless card. I found this thread at notebookforums.com talking about numerous cases where switching grey wire plug location on GN-WIAG card help improve signal strength.

Here is the thread:
http://notebookforums.com/showthread...oth+black+wire

I took a picture of my 8790 setup, could you please take a look and let me know if the grey wire indeed supposed to be connected to the Bluetooth module. And the black wire to the WLAN card. Also on WLAN card there are two connector points. Does the wire suppose to be connected to the outer connector or the inner connector? Please let me know.

Thank you!
Alex.

WOW! This really does work. I switched the wire from the inside notch on the card to the outside notch... BAM! Way better signal.

So much better, that now I see my neigbors 2WIRE router (along with my Linksys)

I got both wifi and bluetooth on my laptop. When I went to check on the wire setup, the black was set on the outside of the two antena ports. I then checked where the grey wire lead to...it seems to go under the first hard drive. I tried to move it, pulled it a little even, but it didn't budge. I'm afriad its hooked on to something and i don't want to pull it out because it seems to lead into an area where i'd be hard pressed to re-connect it if it was attached to something there. Any sugestions? I'm thinking at this point "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" since i've already had to go through a few rmas...but if i can somehow get a better signal reading on wifi i might try it.

I have both wifi and bluetooth also.... My black wire was on this inside antenna port... I moved it to the outside and things work about 10x better.

I didn't notice the grey wire. Everything still works for me though.

They are still at it

I just receive my 8790 a couple of days ago, everything worked fine, except the wireless; only about 5% receive power on the G-EzLink Utility. After I found this thread http://notebookforums.com/newreply.p...te=1&p=276484#
bouncy (THANKS) I researched the problem a little and found this : http://tw.giga-byte.com/Communicatio...stallation.pdf
which shows the corner connector is the primary antenna connection, not the center one like mine was connected to. I changed the connection and now I have about 75% receive strength and a working wireless connection. One wonders what is going on at Sager. http://notebookforums.com/newreply.p...te=1&p=276484#
