Never tried lv2g driver before. Anyone tried them yet, and if so are they better than the MobileForce 169.04?

lv2g is the only ones I fux with.

Why?

because I have had nothing but great results from mobile's and pet'es modded infs. over at laptopvideo2go.
specifically for crysis or just performance tweaks?

crysis
I am going to do the upgrade, but the latest seem to focus just on Crysis. If you don't play that and are happy with your current drivers it is probably not worth it.

Still, you might want to check the release notes to see if any of the updates might help you out.

I am still using the Dell Nvidia driver released Jun 2006 due to having the ability to turn off the screen when the lid is closed. I usually connect my notebook to my home theater for gaming.

Do any of the modded drivers support this function now?

Or better yet, will the screen turn off automatically with an external monitor/TV connected via DVI (I haven't really looked)?

I know I need to update my drivers, so any help would be appreciated.

Just set your display to turn off after a couple minutes

i never had that problem. i use the 169.04 mobile force driver now, and it always turns the screen of after closing the lid.
the old drivers were fine for some time, but they simply offer much worse performance for many current games.

I believe that if you use non-dell drivers, you need to have quickset installed to have the display turn off when the lid is closed

no, you don't need quickset. i don't have any dell software installed and it works fine for me. there's no problem with lid close/screen off when using the 163.xx, 169.xx drivers from moblie force or ltv2go. at least i never had issues.

Then I guess I stand corrected

i think i remember reading somewhere that they thought they figured out the code to fix the lid closing issue, in any event, i got these, fixed my occasional lockup issue on 169.04, performance is awesome too

i used 163.44 from lv2g and it never turned off upon close.

the dell drivers is what you need

I wish it worked.

in all the lv2g and other drivers I have tried I have always had this problem.

my friends m1710 i just installed the default dell driver for his 7900gs the other day, and when I closed the lid. the screen turned off.
It's a Dell only issue where nVidia made a fix for in the Dell driver.
Would have been nice if the fix was put in future drivers or an INF setting but alas no.

Only issue is when lid is set to do 'nothing' when closed
