320GB drive upgrade - I need the Dell PN

Hello,

I noticed on the Dell site you can now configure a 1720 with a 320GB drive (or 2), and I can't seem to find a part number. What's more, the drive (Western Digital WD3200BEVT) can't be purchased anywhere online. It seems to have been released briefly then dissapeared

I saw the thread in here regarding the troubles of obtaining the extra drive bay, but I'll take that option, if only I could find the damn thing online.

Thanks...

Dell 1720
2.0GHz T7250
2GB RAM
120GB 5400RPM
8600M GT
Vista 32bit Home Premium

You completely disregarded my question. I'm also able to google the drive model number and find that Newegg had them, but that doesn't help me.

I need the Dell part number. I talked to Dell parts, they actually told me the only upgrade option I have is a 160GB 7200RPM. After explaining, slowly, and in way too much detail, that they do indeed offer a 320GB 5400RPM drive, they promised to call me back when they figured it out.

Here's a new question, anyone have an alternate phone number for Dell parts? Clueless doesn't really begin to describe the competency of these folks.

You can get the 2nd drive bay easily by contacting dell technical support though I usually reccomend the chat feature since you will likely get Dell SouthAmerica to get you the part. As far as drives go is there any reason why you prefer the slower 320 over the faster 250 drives?

There is, I have a NAS with R1 320's so it works out perfectly for data backup.

I was able to get a part number for the 320GB drive they're shipping with new systems, still 5400RPM, turns out it's a Samsung drive. The Dell PN is WP881 and they'll sell them for $239, but.... without the sled. Ugh! The parts for the sled come to about $44 without tax or shipping.

I'll try the chat suppot you mentioned and see if they can get it to me for free. Am I wrong to think that they should provide this? ...or atleast charge me a REASONABLE price?
