I wish the 37" 1080p Westy LCD had an ATSC tv tuner built in...would make my life much easier
post #22 of 60
I thought the westy's were washed out when compared (placed right next to) the LG's, Samsung's, and Sharps.

Really? So many people seem to just rave over them at least the LCD TV's.

Ehh doesn't matter, they don't have the ATSC tuner and I'll probably end up getting a Sharp Aquos anyway

You bastard, is it a refurb?
No, brand new. Newegg had a sale on it back a bit. I'd been watchin it for a couple weeks, then seen the price on it late one night and ordered. Not sure if it was a mess up or just a good sale. Either way I would pay the 1200 they are askin now for it. Been great so far and don't expect any problems (crosses fingers).

Its a Sharp you shouldn't have any. I have been looking at that TV for a long time and still can't spend that money. Hopefully I will be able to soon.

That's almost the TV I'm looking at, I'm gonna go for the LC32D62U however and just get a DVI-HDMI cable and hook it up that way, should have about the same picture quality, just have to tune it in

Yours must be the LC32GP1U?

Gonna pick up the Toshiba HD-A2 as well and have some wonderous times with the HD!

Bad idea. HDMI ports do not report the LCD as a monitor and you can have issues with the REZ settings. Straight DVI port and the computer sees a monitor not a TV.
You will be just fine with the DVI to HDMI cable. I have one here from monocable to see which was better. Can't tell any difference.

Edit:Not sure of the tv/monitor problems Darq, well this one works. May be from model to model or older lcds maybe? Something to look out for I guess.
Funny I spent 50 on a HDMI to DVI cable and had all kinds of issues, went out and spent 25 on a VGA cable and I have much more control of the rez settings, threw the TV as well as threw my PC.

not to rain on your parade...but you should really do more research when purchasing a lcd...especially in the 24" category...it is by far one of the most popular sizes due to the dpi...if u think the 2" difference in size is not that big of a deal..then u really need to be more observant..
1. the acer u got is a tn panel, which means although it's great for gaming ie why it has a lower response time...it means it has crap angles...ie movie watching ...
2. better panels like the dell, gateway, benq...maybe sceptre use a pva/spva...although higher in ms...oh no's 6ms...it has excellent viewing angles...and w. coupons/holiday season sales...u could probably have gotten them for a pretty good price and close to the amount u paid for the acer..
3. ur samsung 22" is plagued w. input lag and has always been a pretty bad panel compared to other 22" lcd's

my .02, no I didn't read all the responses tl your thread b/c I'm on my pda...but save yourself some money & get something that's worth your parents hard earned money...you are comparing something bad to something god awful...go buy a lg or westinghouse 24' & u will see a huge difference in black/ color/ washout etc

Not sure on it, the cable I have works fine with this sharp model. I did stick with the DVI though (only tested the hdmi once to see if it worked). Guess a good read would be over at avsforums (where I do most tv reading).
