m9700 Power Adapter

I placed an order 2 weeks ago on Alienware's website for an extra m9700 power supply. A few days later they informed me they were on backorder and to get back with them this week. I just received another email today stating that they will no longer carry any inventory of this item and to call them to get my money back.

My laptop is only a year old and they stopped selling the power supplies, pretty lame but ohwell I guess. Does anyone know another place to buy one?

Just checked with no luck

That seems odd that they would not carry parts for a notebook that they just EOL.

this can't be right. call them and speak with someone about it.

I know it's very odd. They pulled them from their website, too. I'm calling tomorrow to cancel my order, I'll try to figure out what's going on, also.

Got another email today.

"Sir, we guarantee stock for replacement parts for systems under warranty. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected situation, we no longer have these items available for purchase. Please be certain that if your AC Adapter fails, or any other component from your system, we will cover the damage and will have stock available to replace any item. This is only valid for systems under warranty."

Just so people know, I've found them available elsewhere (twice as expensive though.) I ended up searching the actual model of the power adapter and found several sites that offer them.

well if its like a ran into with customer support they have them but they will deny that they do... They swore up and down with me that they have never sold a 320 gig hard drive in the m9750... and that i was mistaken but after 10 minutes of arguing with them they magically found one... hmmmmm... so i would call back and check with someone else to make sure... sometimes the support are wrong...

Does anyone know if it's the same one used for the m9750?

couldnt tell you post a picture of your power supply and what voltage it produces...then that would give me a better idea...

It has a barrel connector that goes into the laptop. It's rated 19V at 7.89A for 150 watts.
the m9750 adaptor has a 19v at 9.5 amps...

I wonder if the connector is the same size. It puts out more than enough power.
same chassis so it should be the same but if alienware wont sell you a m9750 adaptor there must be a reason why....

More than enough power can cook a motherboard real quick like...

I doubt I would actually buy the m9750 adapter. I can see an overvoltage eating up a motherboard. It's been a while since electronics class but I'm pretty sure the amperage rating is only a max "potential" output. It can handle loads of up to 9A if the computer is pulling that much. I think if I plugged the m9750 adapter into my m9000 it would still only pull a max 7.89A. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while.

I think you are correct theGOLDENchild. PSU ratings are the Max load (with a titch of engineering fudge factor usually). I guess it's the term Power that is confusing the issue.

As long as the voltage is the same, the connector is the same you should be good. A device will only draw the current load demanded from the PSU. In other words the more current capability the PSU has the better, typically.

sounds right, boyd.

just buy the m9750 brick from them and be done with it. they should have guided you towards it in the first place.

this is the worst customer service i have heard from a reputable dealer like alienware. first they refuse to sell you a simple part needed to operate one of their products that they sold you about a year ago. and second, they did not have the knowledge to re-direct you to another solution. it's not like you busted the S key on the keyboard and demanded another another S key from them lol....all you wanted was another power supply FFS!!

Yep, is strange.

I wonder if the m9700 wall wart is about to be recalled but hasn't been made public yet? Assuming the connector is the same size/polarity and the 'larger' m9750 brick won't necessarily be as efficient as the one designed...but, but, but. Don't know why Alienware wouldn't have a recommendation for the end user? It's an Alien conspiracy I tellz ya!

I would call 'em back and get an explanation theGOLDENchild...or is it just simply a warranty issue? *EDIT* Ooops, see you are doing just that!*/EDIT*
