When I attempt to access the nvidia control panel it crashes. Any idea why this happens?

EDIT: It happens with _your_ 169.04 drivers as well. This did not occur with the DNA-Force 169.04 drivers although I'm going to double-check it here it a minute.

I'm in the same boat, I reverted back to 94.xx. I hope this is resolved soon, I am running Quake Wars and have heard that the 164.xx drivers help.

Glad I'm not the only one. 94.22 is the best driver I have where everything works. I can regedit for a classic interface but I'd rather have everything work the way it is supposed to. I'm going to see how the dna-force drivers have the control panel keys setup and see if I can get it working right on these as well. EDIT: I have managed to narrow it down to the NoPages key. In the regular drivers and the NBF set it is setup to a value of 0. In the DNA-Force drivers it is set to 40000000 (hex value). Here is a patch for the issue if you have the crash. Only use it if you have to. It should not affect any of the tweaks. The following "code" should be put in a file named patch.reg
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\NVIDIA Corporation\\Global\\NVTweak]
"NoPages"=dword:40000000
This will resolve the crash now. Hope this helps those that can't load the control panel correctly.

Just double-checked the patch again (I was doing some other edits including deleting keys prior to discovering that). I clean removed then reinstalled the drivers. It made it work without issue. This fix should work with all future versions as well.

I just installed these drivers and my Dual View is giving me grief when I connect my 2005FPW via DVI. When I set it up, my 2005fpw will display the set resolution (1680x1050), but will only do so in a 1280x1024 box. The monitor also only reports a 1280x1024 signal, but my 1710 says other wise. When I mouse over to that display, I can move the larger display area around the smaller 1280x1024 "box". I've tried for over an hour to get it to work by messing with the control panel's scaling, the monitors scaling, switching res back and forth, different monitor drivers (both dells and microsofts) , pluging and unpluging, but no dice. I just busted out the old VGA cable and it works fine... Any ideas? VGA is FTL lol

I experienced that along with the error about the control panel.

Ah ic... the 169.04 also gave me this problem. They both offered me terrible performance in Team Fortress 2 when compared to my previous 6 month old drivers... Maybe I'll try those recently updated official dell ones? lol

Well... I just installed the dell drivers... Wonderful dual screen support, screen shuts off when I close the lid, AND they totally kill the 169.09 and 169.04 in the fps department... ah well... I tried

Well it depends on what you play. Gears of war requires 163.44 or newer drivers to work and Dell only provides up to 94.22 for my laptop. Also Crysis plays really well with these drivers versus the 94.22 drivers. The only thing that doesn't work is the backlight turning off when the lid is shut and I am working on a registry hack for that one.

nice! well this hd is going to be my back up so the dell drivers should be a nice stable safety to fall back on. My new 200 gig hd and vista x64 ultimate + office 2007 ultimate will be here soon so I shall experiment with drivers yet again. This 1710 is showing its age, so I'm not going to be gaming on it much more. The orange box will be this laptops last stand... and even at that this 1710 weeps when I force it to play lol. Looks like its going to be 360 only gaming for me until I have money to build a nice desktop...

I have my machine dual booting between Vista and XP and have this driver for both of them. It appears very stable and I am getting very good frame rates. SLI appears to work (by looking at the significant FPS boost when enabled). I have not o/c'd the cards and probably won't for awhile (wating on the 8800s).

Thought so, I have a 7800 and the Dell drivers are old. Does anyone know if I can mod the Dell 7900 drivers to work with my 7800?

Finally updated from a 92.77 and tried these, the control panel worked, but I had the same problem with dual view. On my 24" there was a 1600x1200 box with the desktop extended, when a 1920x1200 resolution was applied. Ended up installing the 156.65 driver from dell, which worked fine. Hopefully there's a fix soon, I was looking forward to using this driver.

Well so far I'm impressed with them..

My G1S did have the 167.58 drivers from laptopvideo2go "supposed to be Driver Released by: ASUS/HP-Compaq" & I got a 3D Mark 2006 score of 3697.

This driver has yielded me a 3D Mark 2006 score of 3912!!!

This was done with just turning off the windows side bar & that's it!

Only with the Dell stock drivers. There still has been no workaround discovered yet, and probably never will be.

i saw a few threads that hinted at a registry key that controlled it...
