buzz on speakers?

I just got my 8887 and I noticed that there is a buzz on the speakers I have connected. I also have an old iMac that I used to have connected to those speakers and got no noise at all. Has anyone else had this problem and have they been able to fix it?

I hear a slight buzz when I move the mouse, or hold down a key on the keyboard (so it repeats, like scrolling with the arrow keys).

I have not connected external speakers yet, and I hope it's not a sound problem. I was hoping it's just with the laptop's internal speakers (which I don't mind them buzzing very faintly).

in the spaekers, just turned up to an audible volume, i can almost hear buzzing over the fans! This is kinda annoying considering i am planning to get some better speakers soon, namely the z-680's. I don't know if it's just my computer or if it's a sager thing in general. An audible volume meaning not over conversation level. I have a brand new 8887-c 2.4, 512, 60 (4200). I have heard that maybe the tv tuner software is causing this? Anyone?

Dont worry about the Z680's

These beauties use the optical out from the laptop - no noise there - just beautiful sound!!

Great choice of speakers.

I get the buzz too - didnt notice it till recently on my 5660. I can hear the HDD clicking away to glory. This didnt happen until the HDD was relatively full (still 80% free but...).

It has something to do with interference - I wouldnt worry about this causing problems with the Z680's

Yeah, but what about standard mini-jack speakers? Do you notice it with them? (I am at work w/o my 8887, so I cannot test it yet).

Sadly, I have to say that the interference sounds do come through the headphone jack on my 8886. The static is then amplified by the desktop speakers.

I agree that speakers connected to the S/PDIF are definately the way to go. I also have a set of Logitech Z-680s... they rock!

yup

the souds come through the headphone jack. I also noticed some noise in the microphone jack as well - I just tried that out a minute back.

I think it is a problem with port placement more than anything else. Had these ports been to the front of the system away from the CPU and HDD I doubt this noise problem will have such a great significance. It is actually quite annoying

i just tryed my speakers out also and i get the hdd thump threw the speakers also was wondering would a external sound card like the adioagy fix this i see it on sell at bestbuy for $79

No more sound

Do you have the latest sound card drivers?
Have you muted everything in the audio control panels except :

1] Volume control
2] Wave
3] SPDIF

??

mute even the PC Speakers - I feel it is the coil for these speakers that is causing more trouble than normal.

I didnt find any improvement after using IAA - just muting everything else did the trick for me...

I get the same sounds if I connect to a grounded stereo amplifier.
Has anyone checked to see if the noise goes away if you unplug the laptop power supply and run on battery? If so it it would appear to be a ground loop (in combination with an IRQ conflict) issue. Can anyone who does or doesn't have this problem check and see if the AC97 sound and Radeon 9000 are sharing an IRQ?This may also be playing a part in the problem.I know the sound card is screwing with my video performance because of the shared IRQ.
Maybe I'll get brave and remote desktop into my sager, disable the video via the device manager and see if the noise goes away.

that's strange, i also have a shared irq with the sound an the video. what exactly does that mean? i can't change it either, but then again, i don't really know how! is it supposed to be shared? device manager reports no conflicts. I also get the hdd clicking but only when i turn it up all the way on my speakers.

I can't say that I have or had any problems with my audio. The laptop speakers are ok but not as loud as I would like. So, I took the advice of a few people and ordered the echo Indigo sound card that plugs into a slot on this machine. What a good investment that card was. Awesome sound. It would be hard to beat having the Echo Indigo!
