I have been playing with my new 8790 for about three hours and I have to say that I'm really impressed. It works like a charm and thankfully no dead pixels. At least I haven't seen any yet.
I do have a few quick things that I have noticed already. (these may be specific to my 8790)
1. The subwoofer makes a HUGE difference in sound. However, it only activates while in 6-channel mode 5.1. All other modes it isn't activated and it is very noticeable.
2. The LCD for me it is fine. If I waited for WUXGA It would be too small for me to read. Just a personal preference. But it looks great.
3. It is heavy, but not a big deal, its to be expected with a machine of this caliber. It was funny to see the look on the guy's face in the mail room when he lifted it, after telling him it was a laptop.
4. The speed burst in the fans. I was not fortunate enough to get the firmware update to fix it. But over all the fans aren't too bad.
5. The volume control is sort of a pain.
I'm being very picky, becuase there is nothing that I can really complain about. This baby rocks!!!
As for the rest of my experience, I am very pleased. I don't consider my self a n00b by any means, more of an Advanced n00b. I am not nearly as educated as some of the rest of you. But I did a lot of reasearch before my purchase. I also watched and read these forums for weeks. Along with the Alienware forums. I'm glad I went with a sager, and I am very pleased with PCTorque. They are great. I sort of nagged them a little, but they were very patient, helpful, and I will order from them again. I hope everybody has the same great experience I did.
