Hello..

I've been out hte forums for quite long.. I have a question..

I've had my m1210 for almosta a year.. y lately, I've been hearing a high ptiched noise.. I suppose it is coming form the processor..

I have a Core2Duo T7200 2GHz, 4MB cache..

As you read, my Warrant is almost done within a month, so I wanna make sure the processor doesn't fail...

What is yous opinion.. should I constact Dell and make them change my processor?? Or what should I do?? Is it inevitbla it will fail? What does this pitching noise mean?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers..

So when is the noise appearing, when computer is idle, or when fan is running.

It's not cpu.

If you have usb mouse of usb flash drive try putting it in and see if the noise stops.

Also check if the fan doesn't make any noise.

This is a known issue. It's not the fans or hard drive. My M1210 has it, and if you search, many other models do it too. I'm not even sure it's an actual problem.

FYI: a different problem with my m1210 but totally applicable to you;

I had a strange problem with my m1210 where the games would play fine for 5 mins but then it started to go in slow motion. So I got Dell to replace the motherboard about 5 times and even that did not solve the problem. Got them to replace the CPU, still no solution. Got them to replace ram, screen and still no problem. Finally I asked about replacing the heatsink and that solved the problem. This happend last month and my Warranty expires in 1 month.

I complained to Dell about the problem and how it has prevented me enjoying the Laptop and they upgraded the Warranty for 6 months.

So I think you should try and get Dell to replace as many parts as you can until you find which one is causing the problem. Try and replace the whole motherboard, CPU and other parts. Also ask the XPS manager to extend your Warranty because of all the problems.

It's not the heatsink, If you open up the fan compartment you have a major case of the dust bunnies deep inside. I noticed it when dell sent me a replacement kit to replace it. A chunk of dust fell out so big it looked like Don King's hair.
