Really...

for a leading edge boutique computer/laptop builder I find it disappointing that AW does not have the next generation chipset/processors available for their UBER LEET laptop systems.

I guess Dell has to launch its SLI or nothing system 1st.

Hee, hee, hee. The new notebooks do appear to be very nice.

I'm hoping for some desktop action too.

What was the 7700 chipset? I guess that was 945P and 800 Mhz FSB....

I agree, the desktops look pretty sweet, but maybe when I settle down. Right now, constantly on the move!! Need some lappy action.

So far the new laptops still only have 677 DDR2 RAM. I was hoping for more, but I will have to wait and see if there are other options.

With laptops it always seems to be the waiting game...

It is probably because of the heat.
We have an HP DL380 G5 with 2 physical processors and 4 GB of RAM.
We the server is running, the processors are cool to the touch.
The RAM, you could cook stuff on it. It will leave a mark if you hold your hand on there adn that is with heatsinks and all redundant fans.
You can even feel the heat through the cover.

well with a santa rosa platform the ram will only run at 667mhz just like the dell 1730...

What about the 1 gig flash ram module? Does that act like RAM as well?

To an extent yes!

Here is a link to read about it:

From what I have read the new 800FSB santa rosa platform doesn't even run at that until the new Penryn processors come out because the current CPU's do not support the 800mhz FSB. Yes a 1600mhz FSB that the desktops will be using is INSANE!!!. Especially since a whole slew of Ram types are already tested positive for usage with the new desktop standard. It will be a waiting game before we have a processor that will actually have the capabilty to utilize DDR2-800mhz ram.
