I have installed the drivers for the built in camera, but when I open it all I get is a Grey screen. I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times but nothing seems to work. Any Ideas?

For reasons unknown to me, when I booted this morning, everything worked great. So, no more camera problem.

Maybe it was just tired of looking at you. Just kidding (couldn't pass that one by).

Actually I stole it from my son and I was the Butt of that comment.

Hey Now!!

Actually, after some testing ('cause I hate not knowing why), I figured out the problem. Just in case somebody else has a similar problem. I downloaded the latest drivers from sager and I used those to install everything. With the camera, you must install the from the supplied disk, then update the driver with the freshly downloaded driver from sager. Then it works fine. So, now I know, and now I'm happy.

Still lovin' my Sager by the way!!

Same camera problem on my 8790

I'm having the same grey screen problem with my 8790 built-in camera. I have the USB devices enabled in the BIOS, I installed the driver from the CD first, and then I downloaded and installed the driver from the Sager website. When I run either AMCAP or bs350u2, all I get is a grey screen. Any other suggestions?

I installed the driver from the CD first, and then I downloaded and installed the driver from the Sager website.
--------> Does it mean that you did not use the included cd-driver for the built-in camera and you only used the one from Sager's web site?

I had the first one that used CAMTEL cd-driver (the last series with serial number Nxxx... ).
The 2nd one that used ALI cd-driver (the new series with serial number 8xxx.... ).

Which brand of camera do you have?

I have the ALI-type camera device.

This may sound really silly, but it's what worked for me. After installing and uninstalling both drivers several times, to no avail, I noticed while working on an unrelated task that my camera was listed in the "My Computer" window under "Scanners and Cameras". At this point I happened to have the CD driver ("Bs350u2") installed but the downloadable driver ("USB PC Camera 301p") not installed. I decided to click on my camera in the "My Computer" window just to see what that would bring up. To my surprise, it brought up a preview window showing my face! A quick status message flashed up saying something to the effect of "Installing camera..." just before the preview window opened. Since then, the Bs350u2 utility (LiveCam) has worked properly too -- no more plain grey screen. Hope this comes in handy for someone else.

@^$*&%(*&$@ Camera

I have followed this thread with interest because I have not been able to get anything other than a black (not even grey) rectangle out of my camera with either the camtel driver which came with the 8790 or the one I downloaded (301P I think). I have tried disabling the USB device 29 and the syetem doesn't even know it has a camera, so I figure it must be a USB29 device like the card readers. Any suggestions? Could it just be a dead camera?

Hello????

Anybody out there with a cure?

Valeno,

1/ Look at your machine's serial number
2/ What is your digital web cam manufacture?

Serial Number

The serial number on the bottom of the Sager is NCD87P4C00378. There is another sticker that says ver 1.0. Looks like an early version. No clue what camera is built into the beast.

I had one with serial number Nxx and the driver is CamTel

Camera Fixed!!!

With the help of David Liu at SAGER tech support, my camera is now functional. As it turns out, I needed the "orange" drivers. He was good enough to send them to me in a zip file and they worked, first shot. Any idea what the difference is in the various cameras that Clevo is sprinkling across the releases? I've saved the e-mail with the zip file attachment if anyone needs it.

A different problem

It isn't the camera's fault, it's mine, but I recorded by just opening up the Bs350us and then click capture and start capture then ok to say I wanted the file to go to My Documents.

The file created was just a file. If you go to properties and see what kind of file it is it doesn't say Microsoft Word File, or Winamp Media File, it just says file.

Anyone know anyway to fix this or did I lose what I had recorded?

You probably have to open it in WMP.
Can't, can't open it with anything I've tried. It's just a plain file, .file. It's not a .wmv or a .mpeg or anything like that.
yea i had that same problem before.
you just have to rename it to mpg/mpeg, just tack the file extention on the end of it it should work fine. it might have something to do with video program not having an encoder, so it just saves it as a raw uncompressed video file.

if you dont have show file extensions on.. that sucks, enable it

Search for a program called Properties Plus.. it allows you to change extensions for files on the fly..
