Acer Extensa 5220 CPU upgrade issue :(

Hi, I have a Acer Extensa 5220 notebook, I wanted to upgrade CPU from CM530 (fsb 533) to Core Solo T1300 (fsb 667), my RAM is 667, bios newest. chipset supports this fsb (667) but when I put T1300 to the socket and assembled notebook, turned the power on it just didnt started :/ I just heard the optical drive, LCD didn't turn on, after ~10sec power led turned off.

Can you help me, please ?
what is the problem

According to what I've found your chipset is the Intel GL960 which only supports 533mhz fsb and only Celerons, read http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gl960/

download the chipset id utility to make sure. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...?ProductID=861

well, I've downloaded intel chipset id utility before I bought the cpu, and id utility says that I have the GM965 chipset

Hmm... I dunno, all the specs on your model I've found say it's the GL960. Best way is to look at the actual chip.

Is there some more numbers with your model? Extensa 5220-XXXX ?

I think it just has the GL960, because what else it could be, cpu is 100% ok ?

How do You know the only SantaRosa will work ?

Those models are bit too expensive

Did you just try that cpu or someone told you it going to work ?
T7100 in Poland costs 170€ :/ (permission to say cock)

I just can't understand why it works on expensive cpu like T7xxx and one rly cheap one CM530, but why it doens't work with the Core Solo T1300 (667 fsb) or the Pentium DualCore T2080 (533 FSB)

How about T2310 ? I think it's SantaRosa also, but im not sure, do you have any sort of a list with all SantaRosa based cpus ? except that from tomshardware

I know that this thread is quite old but maybe I can give some useful informations. Seems to me that you tried to "upgrade" from a newer Socket P processor (CeleronM 530 - Merom-L) to a older Socket M (T1300 & T2080 - Yonah derived). The notebook is trying to follow the Santa Rosa platform. The chipset being Intel Mobile GM965 (and not GL!) I think you should look for a Merom or Merom-2M Core 2 Duo, standard voltage with socket P (careful with sSpec Number of the processor): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ge.2C_45_nm.29

This could be a constraint of the Acer motherboard chipset. Though both PCU sockets are the "same", the T2390 is listed as a Pentium Mobile Processor whereas the T5300 is a Core 2 Duo. The notebook in question might not be able to support the internal architecture of this T5300
