XPS M1730 video card upgrade options...

Thread Starter
Seriously thinking about purchasing one . Talked to the sales rep , asked about the video card upgrade option(s) . Here are his words :

Quote:
Me Arethe upcoming nvidia 8800M GTX cards in SLI would be available for upgrade for this system ????
Rep We don't have an option to upgrade the video card later on any laptops. Because, it is integrated. So we can only upgrade it at the point of sale
..and then ..

Quote:
Me so there would be no options later on to upgrade the video card ?
Rep That is correct, we can only upgrade it at the point of sale

Me are you sure about the information about the video card upgrade ?
Rep Yes, we cannot upgrade it in the future. Because, the video card is attached to the motherboard of the laptop. That's the reason why we can only upgrade it at the point of sale..
I would say he doesnt know s@#t . But i want to make sure before i buy a 3k worth of computer with 8700 ( even if they are in SLI ) which if doesnt have an option to upgrade seems like a total waste of money . M1730 has the potencial for a better card upgrade . But like i said i just want to make sure .

That's different from what I got by a sales rep and what's been said by notable Dell officials.

I would have called his BS with his own site:

That guy was an idiot that did not know anything about the system he was talking about. He's as bad as a used car salesman. That video card is not integrated. The m1730 will more than likely have 8800's in the future, and I'm more than certain they'll fit just as well in the 1730's case. Whether dell or not will hold true to the upgrade...who knows, but you can always do it yourself.

why dont you just wait a week or two then get one with the 8series cards, prob be cheaper than upgrade route anyway
