Rebuild possibly, advice?

Hey guys I think I'll be getting a refund on my desktop in sig, and I wanted to know the parts you'd pick for a system that comes out to about $1350-$1500 before MIR.

All help would be much appreciated. Currently I have the P5K by Asus and I sorta wanna avoid the OC'ing limits it has by going gigabyte if possible. DDR2 also only please
post #2 of 81
My system is like 1600 minus 120 or so in rebates....Just a thought!
do you want sli/crossover?
sticking with the q6600?

crucial ballistix 8500 ram
dfi makes a mean p35 board.
wd raptors
sb xfi extreme gamer
8800 gt

I'm on my phone so this is kinda hard to help right now.
ok, personally I wouldn't go GT, if you wanna run high res...As for raptors, I think a complete waste unless your gonna raid 4 of them with a additional raid controller..XFI gamer sound card? The Gigabyte sound system is awesome and supports 7.1 surround sound. As for 8500 Ram, well sounds nice, but won't make a damn bit of difference considering the limited fsb from mobo and processor anyway.

thanks guys, of course specifics will be helpful when you guys get time, the refund will probably take me some time anyway.

Also, sticking with the Q6600 (G0 this time around), probably an 8800GT to conserve cash so that if/when the 9 series comes out, I can upgrade without problems.

So really big up for debate pieces are- Ram:HDD:Case (although I do like the TT armor):PSU:sound card/on board?

wow rock, what would you recommend since you disagree with everything I suggested.

when I get home from work ill help you out properly.

Hey, pdonket ... seems to me you've already got more than enough knowledge to build one in your price range. Remember all the virtual configs we've done.

Good luck on your new build ... you'll have fun!

You are completely retarded. Do you even know why you would want a 10k drive, and last time you posted about Raid you blew it out your ass and you just did again, so how about you don't.
A 10k drive vs a 7200 isn't gonna make much a difference anyway...Unless you can show me sooooo substantial evidence it does, I personally just don't support them unless they are in raid....JUST my opinion..GB didn't mean to dissagree with everything, just putting out what I think, giving donkey a little to think about.

GB, not seeing a GPU on there...

It's late, I might be missing something somewhere though.

Well that's what I was thinking, but I technically had a say in what parts went into my current desktop and that didn't work out too well for me

Is this a suggested HS? seems to have great reviews and I do trust other products by TT.

Also, I think I'll be going with the X-fi Extreme Gamer no matter what, seeing as I have it now and love the quality of music it plays, and I don't know if on-board will match it.

Hmmm took a look at the PC power & cooling PSU and I'm not really feeling it. I know it's a good PSU, but 90mm rear fan PSU's really don't appeal due to noise factor, I find that my mom's alienware with a silverstone PSU (90mm rear fan) is extremely noisy when put in comparison with my current 700w TT

My advice........

Q6600 (G0 stepping paired up with any of the normal HSF's that OC'ers love)

8800GT (NOT an OC version)

G-skill DDR2 800 (even with big oc's on the CPU you won't need any higher clocked RAM)

Corsair 520w (modular)

Abit IP35 series for the mobo (find one that has what you want)

Seagate 320gb 7200.10 HD

Any SATA DVD burner

Case is subjective if you want good cooling then Antec 900, TT Armor, P182........I personally would suggest any of the Lian-Li's that you think will work.

I'm not gonna post a price b/c I know this will be in budget.

*Edit-I would also suggest holding off on the soundcard for now and trying the onboard.....if you can't tell a difference then you just saved yourself some cash.......if you can tell a difference it's easy to just pop in there after the build is done.

Well it looks like these A$$HOLES aren't gonna refund me, and blame it yet again on Vista. Another issue happens I'm shoving this POS down their throat.

what was wrong with your computer?

What OC issues with the P5K? (I have the P5K-D) and it's considered one of the best OC boards out there.

Rockin' seemed to have the same issue with his Asus P5K, and what my problem is, is getting it above 2.6ghz. I even re-app'd thermal paste and still no luck.

Also, original problem is that the OS's just refuse to work on the PC, and I've had reinstall XP and Vista maybe 5 times each, on top of that I am getting "disk read errors" all the time just after POST but before windows boot-up.

They don't really know how to fix these. They're thinking chkdsk /r will help but it will probably not, in which case I have a budget of $1700 - OS to build myself a new one on their website

What I'll probably throw in is:

evga 8800GT
Q6600 G0 edition
Gigabyte DS3
2gb XMS2 from corsair (avoiding the cheapo OCZ)
250gb seagate HD instead of WD like the current one
TT armor case still
Thermal Right 120-Extreme HS for the best cooling possible
700w TT toughpower PSU because so far I love how quiet it is, and I trust TT

Anything you'd change in there to relocate the cash for a "better" purpose?
