I am a college student who does a lot of 3D modeling/animation and image editing. I need a reasonable amount of screen real estate. I do need to test out 3D games I make, but I don't need a hardcore gaming laptop - it should be pretty good, though. Also, I want to make sure my laptop can run HD video (that's important). I plan on using XP. I like the idea of a Thinkpad because they're reliable, durable, and not so flashy, and there appears to be a nice cost/benefit.
Lenovo T61p
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz 800MHz 4MBL2)
15.4 WSXGA+ TFT
NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M (256MB Open GL)
2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
120GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
6 cell Li-Ion Battery
TOTAL: $1360
1. Will this be good for the applications I use? I want this to last me a while.
2. Will I notice any issues with a 5400 rpm hard drive? Is 7200 necessary for stuff like CAD and movies?
3. Anybody have any opinions about Lenovo screens? I don't want a glossy screen, but I think Lenovo has matte ones. Right?
4. Is an upgrade to 2.2 GHz worth $75?
Thank you all in advance!
