Thought it might be helpful to others to share a bit of my "learning curve" with a recent Leopard install on my MacBook Pro.
I chose the Upgrade path initially, as I was too lazy to do a new backup. This was NOT a good idea, and not what I'd recommend.
Had lots of problems initially ... just got the spinning forever gear wheel on startup. Finally did a bit of googling and redid the install, using the Archive option.
Everything worked fine, except I could not log into the computer when the login screen showed up. It would not accept my password. I believe this is because it was more than 8 characters. So found a fix ... booted up from the Leopard DVD, went into Utilities and changed my password.
Now I could get past the login screen and everything seemed to be working. First thing I did was install the software updates for Leopard ... fixed the Keychain problems, etc.
Everything works fine ... my iPhoto and iTunes libraries are intact. BUT ... I could not get to my company email via Safari (but could get there with Firefox). Went into user/library/keychain and deleted my Safari keychain for the web address I was trying to get to. This then let me access my work email just fine. (Note ... this sounds a lot easier than it was ... messed me up for a couple of hours when I was trying to send a file to a work mate who could not receive emails from an external source, so my @mac.com email wouldn't do it). Fixed the problem in 3 minutes with a little research.
So far, Leopard is fine. Other than the improved looks of the dock, I've not seen much to make it worth the effort - although I'm sure I'll enjoy some of the new features once I have time to play with it.
I'd definitely recommend a clean install, after backing up all of your files, although I have to say I've had no issues other than those related to keychain/passwords.
