Acer laptop wont boot. PXE-E61+PXE-MOF

My laptop wont boot. Here is what is on th screen:

Broardcom UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082) v2.0.6
Copyright (C) 2000-2004 Broadcom Corporation
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-MOF: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM,
Operating System not found

I have tried changing the boot priority order so that the Network card boots last. Sadly, this had no effect. I disabled network boot and the laptop then showed 'Operating System not found' without the 'PXE' error messeges. Setting defaults also does not work. I dont have any money to spend on the laptop and im realy stuck on this one.
Please help me.

bad mainboard, or bad hard drive

I today start hvaing the same problem for Acer Aspire 1691 today. I connected my Hard drive as an external device by USB, it works. I can see files easily. If I connect any external harddrive to my computer, it is seeing it too. I do not what to do.... I am totally helpless, and do not have money for another laptop.
Anyway, if you have any clue, please let us know

Is the drive visible in the BIOS?
If its not visible possibly the issue lies with the HDD connector (I've seen them sometimes work loose and cause issues). If thats not the case then it could be a faulty motherboard.

If so is the boot order correct?
The PXE mode is for network booting, though when it fails the media check it should be going to the HDD. Possibly reseting the BIOS to defaults may do the job.

If its visible and boot order is ok try booting off an XP disc and going into the recovery console. Check the OS is visible and file system is ok. It could be a damaged MBR and the machine is going onto the next boot device when it fails to detect the OS.

Hope that helps.

just try below step.

  1. Power the notebook on, and immediately begin tapping F2 to get into the notebook BIOS.
  2. In the BIOS use the arrow keys to select the Boot Menu.
  3. In the Boot Menu will be "Boot Priority Order" and below that will be a list of devices. The first in the list should be "IDE 0".
  4. If "IDE 0" is not the first, use the arrow keys to highlight "IDE 0"
  5. Use the designated keys to move "IDE 0" to the top.
  6. Press the F10 key and press the enter key to save and reboot the computer.
