HP DV6000 Charging problems

Thread Starter
I've got an HP dv6000 that will not charge the battery. I took the unit apart and replaced the power jack/usb board, thinking this would solve my problem...it didn't. I am still having the same problem.

I am able to charge the battery in a friends hp and the laptop works great until I need to charge again.

Anybody have another idea that might help with the diagnosis of the unit?

some component on the charging circuit failed. i cant say what it is without putting a meter on the board.

I am having the same problem. I trace mine to a chip on the Mobo, "PQ6" and a part # BE5KR2 near the battery connector on the opposite side of the board.

what did you meter for? is there a short on the board?

On mine, I checked the voltage path with a Simpson 260 and the voltage stops at PQ6. The problem is an open, not a short.

I am not the one that was talking about a meter, in this thread, you quoted the wrong entry.

I got a Compaq in for repair now and it has the same problem. The customer ordered a MoBo on ebay and got another one DOA with the same problem. Circuit is very similar with most parts the same. The charging circuit must be a bad design?

This model may be covered by the bulletin HP Warranty enhancement. The link is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_UKEN. Be firm even though some of the early levels will deny its existance. This model has definite problems.

DV 6000 CHARGING / POWER PROBLEMS

Hello, My dv6000 DC IN jack just lights up and wireless light shows in orange. By replacing this part , would it fix it?

Issue first started as not charging battery , then we had to take the battery out of the laptop connect it to AC and then it powered, but now it is completely dead , just wireless orange light and DC in power jack.

Does someone knows what voltages should come out from the cables that are located in the USB DC IN sub board?

I just to make sure is not a problem with the DC IN usb board. How to test it?

thanks for all your help.

Have you tried first with another ac adapter?

The "CHARGE REGULATOR" chip is the problem in these. Voltage and current does not get from the power supply jack to the battery!

The USB should have 5 volts on it. The outside pins are the dc and the center pins are the data.

I would suguest searching ebay for the board. The # is usually around the ram sockets. There are 2 versions for this model. One is called a "Full Feature" and I forget what they called the lesser one. I think the full one has more usb jacks and firewire jack, BUT dont bet on that. Just a guess on that

Maybe this is along shot worth checking out.

what is MOBO " PQ6"
Not sure about PQ6 (probably the chip part number). MOBO = motherboard.

PQ6 is a circuit position, like a capacitor would be C-17, a coil would be L17, or a chip U21, etc. This device is part of the "Charge Regulator Circuit".

PQ6 is not the chip's number, but the designator, printed on the MoBo.

Would you happen to have a pic of the area in question to help us out?

cheers ...
