8800 series and Dell lineup speculation:

So I'm assuming they are going to equip the XPS 1730 w/ the 8800 GTX but where will the 8800 GTS go? Will that be in the XPS 1710 or jump all the way down to the Inspiron 1720? I also think XPS will mirror Alienware to save on costs.

my guess:

XPS 1730 8800 GTX
XPS 1710 removed from lineup (outdated form factor)
XPS 1715 8800 GTX (new 15in version of the 1730)
Inspiron 1720 8800 GTS
Inspiron 1520 8600 GT

i say m1730 with sli 8800.

and that's it

and the m6300 with soon to be fx2600m/fx3600m is the same form factor as the e1705/m1710

You really think they will skip the single 8800 GTX and go right to SLI? That would be awesome, but Alienware has announced only non SLI versions at launch. It would also make it that much more likely that the 1720 gets at least a single 8800 GTS, possibly even a GTX.

the 1720 videoboard is a lot smaller than the previous generation videocards. Its nice that the new cards are all more power efficient than the 79xx series Im confident come Dec - Jan many 1720 and 1730 owners will be very happy.

i would like to see 8800 for M1710

so would everyone wtih an e1705/m1710.

closest we will ever get is the m6300's form factor and the fx3600 based on the 8800.

there is no way they would let us have one for our beasts.

they are mad at us for turning our 9300,9400 inspirons into XPS and vice versa.

they want us to spend the cash now to get the lappies they want us to get.

Is the Power Supply needed for the 8800 going to be higher? I mean I know it'll be higher if it was in SLI. But would a single 8800 require more?

The power supply for the 1730 is 230W, so it's a beast already - this should handle the sli power requirements. If they pull more than this they better have liquid nitrogen cooling built in!!!

Be nice if the 1710 were able to use at least a single 8800m. Would help to give at least some credibility to Dell that these machines can take one gpu upgrade beyond the useless clock bump the 7950 was.

Thats gonna be where its @. A 15" XPS system finally and with the 8800 GTX in there. If I can't sell my laptop soon, I probably just wait it out, and end up putting a FX-3600 in it if someone can crack the i9400/E1705 BIOS to recognize the card.
