Dual-booting XP Pro

So I finally bit the bullet, after 2-3 years of lurking around these parts, and ordered my first laptop: a 15.4" Lenovo T61p. To get the obvious out of the way: AHHHH IT'S FANTASTIC!

That said, Vista's an expletive and a half, and has broken more programs than it has worked with so far. Therefore, I'd like to stick XP on here so I can get some gaming in between school and work.

I've already gotten Ubuntu to install alright, although it was a pain getting the graphics drivers to work for the 570M. The problem is, when I insert my XP Pro CD, the blue screen comes up, the drivers load in the bottom, and all is well until the part where the on-screen instructions SHOULD start. Instead, it says something to the effect of: "Windows could not detect any hard disk drives installed. Please make sure they are powered on, plugged in, &c. before trying to install Windows. Setup cannot continue, press F3 to quit."

Where's the ferret, NBF? I definitely have an HDD installed (the 160GB 5400rpm model without FDE, to be specific)...what gives?

Which SATA driver? Intel Matrix Storage Driver (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=migr-62909) or this (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-67811)?

I can't find anything really specific in the support/downloads section on the site, so I'm sorry for the noobish questions. =X

XP not regonising your HDD

Hi mate,

You need to head into the BIOS of your machine and change the setting for your HDD from AHCI to Compatibility mode. The error your getting was the same as what I got. (my machine a Lenovo T61)

I had the same problem when I wanted to move away from Ubuntu and go back to XP Pro. All I had to do to get the XP setup to recognise my HDD was to change the setting noted above in the BIOS.

Cheers

Tristan
