Widescreen vs. Normal

Does anyone here NOT like the trendy widescreen notebooks coming out? It seems as Dell is going completely away from the 4:3 ratio and into the 15.4 screen size notebooks. This is actually why I bought a 5150. I did not want widescreen and if you take away all the Dell widescreens, the 5150 is the top dog.

Anyone here just like widescreen on the TV and not on the notebook like myself? I don't know, maybe one day I will grow into the widescreen notebooks.. it seems I wont have a choice actually.

Thoughts?

I dunno. I have had the i8200 with a normal 15" screen, and then went into the widescreen fray with the i8500 and i8600. I much prefer the widescreens, they give more real estate on screen to work with, which I find very useful for web browsing and office work. DVD's are fantastic, and you don't know gaming until you see Vice City in 1680 x 1050.
But it is personal preference, as you mentioned, you prefer the normal aspect but others like the widescreens. Dell does seem to be heading in the direction of more widescreen laptops, but who knows what some of its next models will be.

Yea maybe once I play around with a widescreen I will sing a different song. What gets distored for you? Say, in just a normal day of surfing the net, checking the mail and maybe playing a game. Does any web graphics get distorted when viewing webpages and such? If so, is it that big of a deal?

I didn't think I would spend as little time on my desktop as I do now that I got my notebook, but I find it to be happening. I don't know if it means that I find my widescreen to be so much better, but rather the convenience of sitting on the couch watching TV with the wife (quality time) while I surf etc. Widescreen is great while watching DVDs.

actually you dont get any distortion. it's not like a tv when it stretches the screen to fit. the only thing that would do that is your background but there are so many sites with backgrounds that fit, that shouldnt be an issue either.

its nice to be able to have two IE open right next to each other.

That's exactly what I find myself doing as well. Well not with the wife as I'm not married but sitting in front of hte couch and surfing web or doing some lite work. Whereas it could be a chore to sit down in my home office, I don't mind using it while watching a basketball game or what not.

Yeah, there are no desktop distortions or anything as they run at widescreen resolutions! Games, when running in say 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024, have to be stretched to widescreen..... but you do not really notice it in most games as being distorted. However you do notice how good game look in widescreen when you can play them as such (As I mentioned before, GTA:VC, MP2, JA... all look absolutely stunning in 1680 x 1050).
