Low settings at best, the 8400 is not a gaming card, other then that I have no further advice for you. 1100 is a low price point for something that is supposed to play current games.

The 8400M GS, IIRC, is a DX10 card, but a medium-range one, at best.

It would play every game on that list, I bet, and well enough, BUT won't play at max resolutions/eye-candy on.

Yep, it will run the games that you need but not at max resolutions. I run Call of Duty 4 quite fine on the 8400GS on my laptop at med settings.

Battlefield 2 should run well but at med settings also. You should be able to get better settings on GTA San Andreas, Sims 2 will run very well on it as it is not very graphics intensive and it runs acceptably on integrated video chipsets.

If you don't need to run everything at max settings or high resolutions an Nvidia 8400GS should be more than fine. However, if you are planning on getting a bit more out of your computer go for an Nvidia 8600 instead.

You are also limited to a $1100 limit so your choices are kinda limited in some areas. Although I've seen in some laptops that the difference between one video card and a more powerful one is just $100.

Nevertheless, the system you specify will be able to run games well (mine does), although not at the highest settings.

Just experiment a bit with the game settings to obtain a balance between good frames per second and graphics quality.

You can also check the Dell Vostro 1400-1500 laptop lines, they also sport dual core processors, Nvidia 8400-8600 cards as well as other very nice specs for around $800-$1000.

As a follow-up to moidock's suggestion, here's a better config than the hp you listed and within your budget: Total $963 + tax
