How to use MacBook as a Desktop

Thread Starter
Heres what I'm trying to do. On my older dell laptops, I can connect a VGA/DVI connection to the system, close the lid, and it'll automatically display only to the external monitor. However, here, I can't seem to do that on the MacBook. When I close the lid, the system goes to sleep.

Is there a way I can do this?

You will have a keyboard and mouse attached no?

PLug in the external monitor, plug in your keyboard and mouse, make sure it is plugged into wall power. Now, close the lid and hit the space bar.

Or, install and run InsomniaX

yeh, will wake on USB activity and should shut off the LCD accordingly. i haven't done it myself as i usually have a dual display but have noticed how when i do unplug a USB device when it is asleep that it wakes momentarily before shutting down again. afaik, it won't stay awake, and be operable with the LCD off, unless an external display is hooked up along w/ said USB KB or Mouse.
