can't read micro SD cards-- any suggestions?

My CX7 (2 yrs old, Pentium M, 7800GTX) has never had any trouble reading MMC cards, memory stick Pros, etc.

But recently I got a gadget which uses a micro SD card. The micro card is 2GB. It came with a small and large adapter (Patriot brand). The large adapter fits perfectly into my CX7's memory card slot (it's the same dimensions as my 1GB MMC card, which works fine).

However when I insert it, nothing happens and the computer doesn't appear to sense the card at all.

Does anybody have any suggestions for reading this card? This model is supposed to read SD cards. I would think the adapter would not pose a difficulty for it. Everything is fitted and seated well. Is there some size limitation?

Hey Squeeze:

I don't have any CX7's to test with, so I can't be sure whether it is an issue with GB size or the Micro SD.

Anyone here have an experience like this?

FWIW my 2GB mini-SD card reads fine in my CX7 (1 yr old Core duo T2500) with the SD adapter. So far I've been able to read all of the cards I have tried.

Hmm, my CX7 is a Pentium M rather than a Core duo. I wonder if the motherboard difference is what's preventing me from reading this card.

Various older devices won't recognize larger capacity cards than were available when they were developed. It's possible your CX7 Pentium M will only read up to 1GB, but I don't know.

It also may be the particular type of micro card that you have like SDHC. You could try someone else's micro cards in your adapter to figure it out (as opposed to buying another card just to test). Many phones are using micro cards now, just ask everyone who comes over w/a phone.
