New TV + Toshiba HD A3 + HD-DVD vs. DVD - Page 2

KILLER!!! Yeah it takes a big TV and distance to really set off HD and I am sure the upconvert will be better than standered. Did you update your firmware yet?? Make sure you keep it up to date. If you don't wanna look online all the time, you can have them send disks to your house for free.!!! I hope all turns out well!! Are you using HDMI or component. With component you will not have as clear as a signal and upconverting will be not as good. Check on the front of your HD-DVD player when playing an DVD and see what it upconverts it to from the standered 480.

As for the firmware, the A3 has a handy feature where you just plug it into an Ethernet port and it will update the firmware as necessary great feature I say!

I'm using HDMI for my connection just so I could have everything top notch and as for upconversion and HD-DVD playback both are in 1080i since the player sadly has a max 1080i output. Luckily I must say the Sharp must be pretty good at interlacing since to me it seems really seamless and beautiful!

Really satisfied with this purchase! Sad side right now is that my lappy can't quite keep up with some of the newer games at 1920x1080 so it sometimes feels video-laggy (call of duty 4) and I wouldn't even dare try Crysis on this baby

Hopefully the 9 series solves this problem for me!

Don't worry one second about upconverting to 1080i vs 1080p. I'm quite sure you couldn't tell much difference ... I know I can't on my display.

Just enjoy!

It's all going good, gonna try to get some time tonight to take shots of borne identity vs. saving private ryan or something like that

Having some more time set backs recently, been really busy. This weekend I'm going to have to make myself relax and enjoy the Sharp a little bit and get those pictures of course

Hey Pdonk., just wonderin what are you doing for sound? Do you have a surround sound setup with your hdtv?

I do not have a surround solution Generally sound for me is acceptable as it is from the TV, and if I do say so myself the speakers on the TV are pretty decent or good for me. The bass sorta sucks because as in almost all stock speakers, they can't really fit a nice sub into a small bar along the bottom

I may try to hook up my X-530 logitech speakers up to the TV and see if that sounds any better (or good enough to make it worth hooking it all up)

I have it hooked up to that currently and from about 8 or more feet away, the picture looks acceptable, definitely not amazing. This is in the non-stretched format. From closer than that, it just looks ugly if you ask me

that is what I figured, thanks for the answer.
