Upgrade Advice

Thread Starter
I just bought another E1705

Specs:

t2400 @ 1.83

1 Gig 533 Ram

7900 GS Rev 0 (590/800)

My main question is this: If I upgrade the cpu to the highest which is , I think, t7600? If not, what is?

Also will this give me any more FPS in games? Or do I really just have to upgrade to a 7950 GTX and XPS power supply?

THanks!

Upgrading your processor will yield insufficient benefits based on how much cash you'll be spending for the upgrade. If you want FPS, these days it has come down to raw GPU power. Either upgrade the current lappy you have or make yourself a desktop would be my advice for more FPS.

Best thing IMO is

1. Upgrade memory to 2 gigs or more
2. Upgrade GPU to a FX-2500, FX3500, 7900GTX, or 7950 GTX

The FX series GPUs are the same as the 7900 and 7950 GTX just usually much better priced.

As far as processors go, I would consider a T7200 or T7400 since they are usually resaonalby priced, but only after the GPU/Memory upgrade

I will go with the GPU route then.

What is the difference between the FX2500 and the FX3500 in terms of performance?

The FX-2500 = 7900GTX
The FX-3500 = 7950GTX

The FX3500 aka 7950GTX is a faster card, but the FX-2500 aka 7900GTX can also be OC to come close to the performace level of the 7950GTX

Also the price of the FX-2500 Vs the FX3500 makes it a resaonable upgrade (usually around $ 200.00)

I would also recommend upgrading your ram and then your video card.

A FX2500M=(7900gtx)is very cheap costing on a average of $150.00-$200.00 on Ebay but the 7900GTX on Ebay costs$300.00 and up.

Ram is dirt cheap these days too.I seen Dell was selling 1gb sticks for around $25.00 on their site.

If I was you, I'd spend 40 bucks on upgrading RAM. If you do, make sure that you get 667MHz as it is generally just as cheap (if not cheaper) when you find the deals. This will definitely give you a performance increase.

As others stated start with the easy and cheap upgrades first Ram then GPU thats going to give you the most boost.

By Rule of thumb with gaming and newer games you should have at least a 2.0 CPU but upgrade the Ram and GPU and see how well your laptop performs.

The Ram and GPU should give you a huge boost and may get by with your CPU.

That is if you want to spend cash on your laptop
