My Replacement

So Dell replaced my laptop with an m1710

Not much changed except i went from a single core to a dual core (awesome) and my video card went from a 7800gtx to a 7900 go......

Im glad I got an upgrade, but isn't the 7900 a step down?

The 7800GTX is a little bit better but, with the dual core CPU I would definitely be happy with it, it's not that much different.

Thats what I was thinking. Think they would let me swap them? Form factor a problem?

a 7800gtx does not fit in the m1710, with the dual core upgrade i wouldnt think your losing out at all in terms of graphics performance, and if you got a rev 0 7900gs you can overclock the shit out of it.

Me either, but it was worth a try. Im excited about the upgrade, and now praying to get a Rev 0

Can i still overclock if I dont get a rev 0?

Yeah i know about flashing the wrong ver, Ive OC'd a few in my life, but i wasent sure if there was something up with the Rev 0 compared to the rev 1 .

rev1 memory clock won't go as high as rev0, there is no optimized memory option for rev1 bios.

You got a revision A01 card. You kinda have to expect that Dell is only making A01 revision cards these days. Ether way you can flash the BIOS to overclock it, just follow this thread here.
