Hi,

I know a few folks here have posted about their Inspiron 9400 to a
M1710 XPS mod but I would like to post my own as well.

Here are pics of my system half way modded:

I have the M1710 black colored XPS lid coming within a few days.

The palmrest is in new cond.No wear what so ever or scratches.
The power button cover is in new cond. Both the palmrest and the power button cover was bought on saturday from Dell Parts and I got it today, tuesday.Free S/H from Dell.I know I paid a little more than some for the plamrest but it is in new cond so I cant go wrong.

Dell P/N
 • assembly,cover,hinge,plastic M1710-d/p:CF426-$56.00
 • assembly,palmrest,plastic,M1710-d/p:FFO84-$10.99
The XPS M1710 black cover was bought on Ebay for$40.00 with S/H and guy's screenname is "TEX-JET"and he says is A+ cond.Currently waiting on delivery.

I am lastly later going to buy a silver XPS M1710 keyboard.Soon

I will update the pics when I get the XPS M1710 lid received and I have a chance to put it on.

Regards,

Ko

P.S.:

New pics:

Still have old Inspiron 9400 black keyboard.Within a week,I will get the silver colored XPS M1710 keyboard.

I did the oposite with my m1710.

I have a m1710 cover/ with lights cuz I have a m1710, and base etc.. but am using the 9400 hinge cover and e1705 palmrest with white trim.

are you gonna actualy get the m1710 mobo, base and speakers, leds etc to make i a real m1710???
I don't get why people make their e1705's look like m1710
kinda poser.

The leds are what makes the m1710 standout.

if you don' have the ligts u don't got shit

I think the LEDs look like shit. Personally would rather have a 9400 modded than an actual XPS. My roommate bought an XPS a week before I bought my 9400. I paid about 400 less than him and they are the exact same machine.

After some thought....
I decided to take the plunge and convert my e1705 to a full fledge M1710.
I've taken the 1st step and happened to get a decent deal on a refurb M1710
motherboard.

I plan to use the same e1705 bottom base and just dremel out
the expansion port and move on from there. I anticipate no issues and I
should theoretically spend less than buying a M1710 straight out.
